We'd like to clear up misconceptions and share key facts about Rabies lyssavirus. This debunks common myths or false beliefs and ensures everyone is guided by scientific evidence.
✔️ 𝗥𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘀 (𝗥𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗱𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘀).
Humans and other land mammals can only get rabies if bitten by an infected animal (e.g., rabid dog, cat, bat, raccoon, or monkey).
✔️𝗥𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻.
Puppies are not born with rabies meaning the myth—puppy's rabies is stronger than an adult dog's is not even true.
✔️ 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 (𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟮 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀).
During incubation period or exposure to the rabies virus (usually through a bite or scratch), within 14 days the virus affecting their brain will cause the rabid dog to die, regardless of whether they bite someone or not. Additionally, it is not true that if you are bitten by a rabid dog, you and the dog will die at the same time.
✔️ 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀.
Unlike COVID-19, which can be transmitted through sneezing or coughing, rabies is not an airborne virus. The virus spreads through the saliva of infected animals typically through bites or scratches causing open wounds (since they often lick their paws or claws), not from the environment.
⚠️Always Remember: Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal, both for animals and humans.
⚠️ If bitten or scratched by an animal:
1️⃣ Wash the wound immediately with soap and water for at least 15 minutes.
2️⃣ Seek medical attention immediately for proper vaccination.
