𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗩𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗥𝗨𝗦 is a major cause of death in puppies and adolescent dogs which can be prevented with vaccinations when performed on the proper schedule. Parvo is very difficult to disinfect and can live easily in environments. It invades its host easily and quickly.

𝑺𝒐 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒔𝒐 𝒔𝒖𝒔𝒄𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒗𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒖𝒔?
Puppies have not yet built up their immune systems to help their bodies fight infectious processes, and they have not yet received their full course of vaccinations. Research shows that parvo in adult dogs is rare due to annual vaccinations. Do not STOP getting your adult dogs vaccinated as Parvo is life threatening and treatment is very expensive.

𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒗𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒖𝒔 𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒐𝒈?
There are two ways your dog is killed by Parvo. Diarrhea and vomiting leading to fluid loss/dehydration until your dog goes into shock, or your dog becomes septic when the bowel ruptures and the toxins enter the body.

𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒊𝒔 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒗𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅?
Parvo is treated supportively. This means, there is no pill or medication that kills the virus. The reason treatment is so expensive is because your dog typically needs to be hospitalized with intravenous fluids, anti nausea medications, and antibiotics for any bacterial sepsis. These pups also need nutritional support to keep their bodies from failing. They often will not want to eat and usually are vomiting what they do eat.

𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒅𝒐 𝒘𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒗𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒖𝒔?
Obviously the 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. If you have a parvo case in your environment, full cleaning including removing all f***l matter should be done diligently. Most importantly, discussing this with your trusted veterinarian is paramount.

𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 is a blood test veterinarians can perform to check for antibodies against parvo to evaluate if a pet is protected from previous vaccinations.

Parvovirus is 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗨𝗦. It is 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘 to treat. It is 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚. And I can’t stress this enough, it is 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘.

If your dog is showing signs of Parvo, seek veterinary treatment immediately. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
