Who would dominate in a walking competition — the climbing perch or the walking catfish?
In a battle of land-crawling champions, it’s a close race, but the walking catfish (Clarias batrachus) has the edge. Why? Because it’s built for the hustle. Using its strong, spined pectoral fins and muscular body, it can crawl over dry land for up to 1.2 kilometers, searching for new water sources. It’s even been seen crossing roads and fields after rain.
The climbing perch (Anabas testudineus), while also impressive, uses a side-to-side motion with help from its gill plates and can survive out of water for days — but it’s slower and more deliberate, built more for survival than speed.
So in a straight-up walking showdown?
The walking catfish takes the win — no legs, no problem. 🐟💨
