How to Do a Weekly Water Change

• Volume:
Replace about 15% to 20% (up to 25%) of the total water volume each week.

• Dechlorinate:
Always treat new tap water with a quality water conditioner before adding it to remove toxic chlorine and chloramines.

• Match Temperature:
Keep the new replacement water at the same temperature as the existing tank water (ideally 23°C to 30°C or 73°F to 86°F) to prevent thermal shock.

• Gentle Refill:
Pour or pump the water in slowly to avoid strong currents, as Red Claws prefer calm, pond-like conditions.

-

Ideal Water Parameters

• Temperature: 22°C – 30°C (72°F – 86°F)

• pH Level: 6.5 – 8.5 (7.0 – 8.5 preferred)

Blessed week to everyone! 🙏❤️

You may feel pressured to have your life figured out, meet certain expectations, or keep up with everyone else's progress. But God doesn't ask you to have all the answers today. He calls you to trust Him and remain faithful to Him in every season.

Natural Hiding Spots

• Rocks and crevices:
Large, cavernous rocks provide dark day-time retreats.

• Fallen logs and tree roots:
Submerged timber in dams, creeks, and rivers offers natural cover.

• Dense vegetation:
Long water weeds and aquatic plants give young or smaller crayfish a place to blend in and escape.

• Shallow depressions:
Unlike some native species, Red Claws do not dig deep burrows, though they may occasionally scoop out shallow depressions in pond or river bottoms.

-

Artificial and Captivity Hiding Spots

• PVC pipes:
Blue or standard PVC pipes (2 to 4 inches in diameter) are cheap, effective, and stackable.

• Drainage and elbow pipes:
Larger drainage tubes or 1-inch elbow joints help smaller crayfish separate from aggressive tankmates.

• Plastic bottles:
Clean bottles with the bottoms cut off and caps removed work well for larger breeder females.

• Egg trays and mesh netting:
Cut egg trays or bundles of plastic mesh create individual partitioned spaces to stop territorial disputes.

• Clay pots and bamboo:
Traditional ceramic pots and hollow bamboo pieces mimic natural hollows.

Key Importance of Molting

• Physical Growth:
The crayfish must shed its old, hard shell to increase in size. Juvenile red claw crayfish molt frequently (every 7 to 10 days), while adults molt about 3 to 5 times per year as their growth rate slows.

• Limb and Tissue Regeneration:
Molting allows the crayfish to repair or regenerate lost or damaged limbs, claws, and antennae.

• Ocular and Structural Renewal:
Regular post-metamorphic molts enable continuous growth and tissue renewal, including complex sensory structures like the compound eye.

-

The Molting Cycle and Risks

• Preparation Phase:
Before molting, the crayfish absorbs and recycles minerals (like calcium) from its old shell into its gut, stops eating, and becomes lethargic or hides.

• Vulnerability:
Right after shedding the old shell, the new exoskeleton is soft and fragile. During this time, the crayfish cannot defend itself, making it highly susceptible to predation and cannibalism in aquaculture or shared tanks.

• Calcification:
The crayfish must consume calcium and maintain proper water hardness (ideally above 50 ppm) and pH (7–8.5) post-molt to harden the new shell and restore mineral balance.

A blessed week to everyone! ❤️🙏

Our love for God isn’t proven by how much we know or how much we say we love Him, but by how we live. Obedience to God’s Word is evidence of our love for Him and of a life surrendered to Him.

Oxygen Level Guidelines

• Optimal / Maximum Growth:
Keep dissolved oxygen above 5 ppm in ponds or tanks.

• Tolerance Limit (Adults):
Adults can survive short periods or low levels down to 1.0 ppm.

• Juvenile Sensitivity:
Young and juvenile redclaw are much more sensitive to low oxygen than adults.

• Critical Danger Zone:
If oxygen drops below 1.0 ppm, crayfish become stressed, crawl to the shallow edges of the water where oxygen is slightly higher, or attempt to migrate overland.

• Daily Fluctuations:
Oxygen levels naturally drop lowest during the night and early morning, making overnight aeration critical.

-

Management & Aeration

• Aeration Systems:
Use air pumps, airstones, paddle-wheels, or airlift pumps to keep water moving and oxygenated.

• Circulation:
Proper setup ensures both oxygen input and circulation from the bottom to the top of the water column.

Guppy (Poecilia reticulata)

• Classification & Origin:
A small, live-bearing freshwater fish belonging to the family Poeciliidae, native to northeastern South America (Venezuela, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago).

• Size:
Small in stature; wild males reach about 1.5 to 2 cm (0.6–0.8 inches) while females are larger, reaching about 3 to 6 cm (1.2–2.4 inches).

•Appearance & Identification:
Features a streamlined, slender body and comes in a massive variety of captive-bred "fancy" colors, tail shapes (veil, lyretail, fan-tail), and patterns.

• Sexual Dimorphism:
Males are smaller, far more vividly colored, and possess a modified a**l fin called a gonopodium used for internal fertilization. Females are larger, duller/grayish-silver in color, and have a rounded a**l fin.

-

Behavior & Habitat:

• Thrives in warm, alkaline, and quiet vegetated waters (ideal temperature range 18–28°C / 64–82°F).

• Peaceful, active, and social schooling fish.

• Reproduction:
Ovoviviparous livebearer—females give birth to free-swimming live young (fry) every 30 to 44 days and can store s***m to produce multiple broods from a single mating.

Blessed week to everyone!🙏❤️

When things don’t go our way, do our actions and responses change? The reality is, we’re not in control. God is. So, even when things don’t go as planned, let’s choose to turn to Him, trust Him, and respond in a way that honors Him.

Tips for Coexistence

-

Choose Short-Finned Guppies:
Use wild-type or short-finned feeder guppies rather than fancy strains so they can swim fast enough to escape

Provide Hiding Spots:
Add plenty of plants, rocks, and driftwood to give guppies safe upper-water zones and give the crayfish their own bottom caves.

Keep the Crayfish Well-Fed:
Regularly supply sinking protein pellets, vegetables, or wafers so the crayfish stays full.
