Oh syempre magpapahuli ba kami? Kami rin ay magjo-join! 😅

For the meantime, habang wala pa kaming Publicity Committee, let’s all say thanks to our All-Purpose Kween for reminding us (wow siya nagremind?) to love every animal with no limits—beyond their breed, age, physical appearance, disability, and story.

Animals—just like us humans—are living beings deserving of a life where they feel seen and cared for. Kaya naman ay we should do our best to help and support them; be the voice of the voiceless, as all lives matter. ❤️‍🩹🐾

On November 26, 2025, at the Audio-Visual Room of the UPOU Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna, the PAW Project held its general orientation for aspiring early members who will help lead the next steps toward becoming a recognized organization.

The orientation was hosted by founding members Aidan Orig and CJ Lacsamana, with Ugnayan ng Pahinungód UPOU serving as the resource speakers. Director Larry N. Cruz of Ugnayan ng Pahinungod UPOU delivered the opening remarks, followed by Ms. Jez Cometa, who introduced the project’s history and background.

The program also included discussions on the project’s next steps to becoming an organization, an introduction to the UPOU campus animals and their proper handling, and the presentation of the various committees—marking the first stage of onboarding for the early members.

Soon, we plan to welcome the founding batch, with the goal of establishing the PAW Project as an independent, student-led organization within the UPOU community. Through this initiative, we strive to cultivate a safe and respectful environment where every community animal is valued and cared for, while promoting a culture and advocacy of responsible animal welfare.

As the second part of the PAW Volunteers Training, the Onsite Teambuilding and Workshop was conducted under the leadership of Ugnayan ng Pahinungód UPOU on 25 November 2025 at the UPOU AR Cafeteria.

The workshop, centered on organizational structure and management, was facilitated by the current executive officers of Cats of UPLB , together with co-founder Ms. Chiara Manuel. They shared the organization’s milestones, experiences, and unwavering commitment as responsible pet owners and animal welfare advocates within the UPLB community.

Together, we strive to build a stronger, more compassionate community committed to protecting animal welfare with purpose and heart.

On 18 October 2025, Protecting Animal Welfare (PAW) Project UP Open University, in collaboration with Cats of UPLB, conducted an online training on proper animal handling and emergency response to enhance the knowledge, skills, and confidence of the participants in caring for and managing community animals.

The session on Humane Community Animal Handling was led by Ms. Sarah Jane V. Maaño, co-founder of Cats of UPLB and alumna of UP College of Veterinary Medicine. On the other hand, Dr. Diane Ruth C. Halasan, a resident veterinarian, delivered the session on Emergency Response in Community Animal Care.

More than 30 participants, including volunteers, students, and staff, attended the training. This session marks the first in a series designed to equip our volunteer members with the skills needed to establish an independent, volunteer-led body that will organize fundraising initiatives, mobilize resources, and oversee the welfare of our community animals at UPOU.

ASPIN MAHALIN! 🐕🇵🇭

Happy National Aspin Day! It’s a day to celebrate the big hearts and bright spirits of our very own Philippine native dogs! 🐾

What was once a dog disregarded is now a symbol of our Filipino pride. Aspins are brimming with courage, loyalty, and intelligence, and they inspire us to see the beauty in every soul, no matter its breed. ✨

In 2021, PAWS officially declared National Aspin Day to give these incredible dogs the spotlight they’ve long deserved. Since then, the love for Aspins has only grown stronger, and together we continue to honor their place in our homes, our culture, and our hearts.

Mahalin ang sariling atin!

SHOW OFF YOUR ASPIN LOVE & PRIDE! Share a photo of your own beloved Aspin in the comments! 🐶
