May is , and we begin the celebrations by introducing a newly-discovered tarantula species, the Romblon Black Tarantula! 🕷️🕸️

Discovered in Romblon, , this newly identified species was given the scientific name 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘺𝘴 𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘶𝘴 in honour of the institutions where the discovering researchers are from - the University of Santo Tomas, Romblon State University, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology, University of the Philippines - Diliman, and Philippine Arachnological Society Inc. - PASI.

Tarantulas, though more frightening compared to other spiders due to their size, hairy bodies, and legs, should not be a concern as they are not dangerous to humans. A trivia about tarantulas? They do not spin webs that are usually used to catch prey.
