BOOKING UPDATE. We're turning down Sniffspot mid September. As mentioned earlier, 97% of you didn't like Sniffspot, so we're changing to https://goodwood.setmore.com. 85% have changed now so we'll be shutting Sniffspot down on 15th Sept (for anyone forgetting to cancel their Sniffpass monthly payments!). It's been a hard job running two booking systems (only 1 c**k up so far). We really appreciate everyone's support.

Nature tried to stop you all getting to Goodwood today but none of you were having a bar of it!

You all put me to shame! It’s coming and going cruddy freezing cold weather out there but you’re all still out there doing with your pups 🧡 .
Meanwhile, I’m doing inside jobs being a sook drinking tea when I should really be fencing.
Remember the emergency golf ☔️ by the entrance if need be. And yes gumboots or sensible footwear are good things at moment, we’ve had a fair bit of rain after these beaut dry spells. Dogs don’t care of course.

Clem (our chief ops manager and new stick calibration specialist) took the cattle for a morning jog today. One of them has figured out how to jump fences; not ideal. So they’ve gone to stay with their mates up the road a bit to think about what they’ve done.
Cool thing here is this is exactly what were bred for, driving cattle, getting under their legs and giving them a hurry up. They’re brave agile dogs designed to dodge flying hooves, and they’re instinctively good at it. They’ll run a marathon and want more, as they used to drive cattle like this from Wales to the London markets (350miles).

CATTLE ESCAPE-OLOGISTS!! Our cattle are wanting to make a break to lusher pastures with less winter feed about, and they know an open gate now!
So if the cattle are near the carpark they will try to sneak past you and out if you muck around. Best to push them back (just try patting them and they’ll walk back, they’re very safe and friendly), and close the gate AS SOON as possible (if you’re alone just don’t dally, or even better stop the car just inside the gate, close gate, then park car). We had a 2nd escape today, luckily I was home and got a speedy phone call. Clem, our ops manager, is fortunately a welsh cattle dog in her spare time so got them sorted, with our guest doing some wrangling by helping to block their route down the road.

🌲🌳🌲 THANKS. You lot funded more plants. Got these magnificent Cypress ovensii for the screening belt with our neighbour. Planting more trees is one of the most satisfying things I think, love it, and helps to ‘privatise’ the park from the road and others. So thanks. A bit of carbon offset for you too.

BIOLOGY break at GOODWOOD.
Pulling weeds today I saw ripe black nightshade berries. They're common &edible when RIPE AND BLACK (they aren’t Deadly Nightshade as many think, that’s not found here) and have a really interesting taste described as: “sweet and salty, with hints of liquorice and melon.”
So fossick out one to try (not the green ones), there’s a bunch I left by the brown table.
And if you don’t trust me, check here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solanum_nigrum
Also, weather is stunning ☀ all week (!) so dive in, get some Vit D, esp while ground is pretty firm. Remember bookings now at https://goodwood.setmore.com or on the FB 'Book Now' button

Cow therapy is all the rage now. So if you want a very therapeutic and satisfying free add on to our dog park visit, cut some big long fresh native flax leaves and bring them along. They will eat it over anything, it’s super nutritional. Watch them crunch their way through a metre or more and swallow it all down, emitting a satisfying crunch all the way. Maybe don’t feed them at the carpark otherwise you’ll train them. Just go up the drive slightly. They’ll be your best mates lol.
