๐ŸŒธ READY FOR ADOPTION ๐ŸŒธ

Meet Pepe and Louie ๐Ÿค

These brothers were found on a busy road with no mama in sight at just 4 weeks old. They were swiftly brought into care and while a little hissy at first, have blossomed into the sweetest little purr machines ever!

Pepe (black and white) is the big boss man. He will check out new surroundings and animals with confidence, and acts like every space belonged to him first (but not in a dominating way) ๐Ÿ˜น
Pepe seems to believe every feed is the first one of his life and has no problem letting you know when it is dinner time!
He is adventurous, playful, and likes a snuggle when he's finished bouncing around.

Louie (black tabby) is a bit more reserved, he gets his confidence from Pepe and will follow him until he feels comfortable - but will send out little meows to find Pepe if his adventuring has taken him too far from his brother.
Louie is playful but really loves a snuggle, especially if he gets to go under the blankets!

These loving boys will always be happy to greet you with purrs and meows. They are both quite vocal and love a chat.
A little 'where are the boys?' will have them running ๐Ÿ˜ป
Adopting a bonded pair is truly special. The love they have for each other is so cute to witness and they have more than enough to give to their family, too ๐Ÿค

Pepe and Louie are a bonded pair and their adoption fee is $500 ($250 each)
They are both -
๐Ÿพ Desexed
๐Ÿพ Microchipped
๐Ÿพ Up to date on flea treatment
๐Ÿพ Up to date on worm treatment
๐Ÿพ Litter trained
๐Ÿพ Vet checked
๐Ÿพ Good with dogs
๐Ÿพ Good with cats
And will come with a packet each of their wet meat and a ziplock bag of bikkies ๐Ÿ˜ป

If you are interested in meeting the duo, please see our adoption process post for more information - https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19mY7Ehf4n/

๐Ÿค ADOPTED ๐Ÿค

Today 5 itty bitty kitties found their forever homes ๐Ÿพ

Storm, Tabby, Smokey, Panda and Gremmy are now settling into their new homes and we are so thankful for the incredible families who came to meet and adopt them!
Today we had families from -
๐Ÿพ Auckland
๐Ÿพ Fielding
๐Ÿพ Palmerston North
๐Ÿพ Ohakune
The distance people are willing to travel for fur babies amazes us, and we love meeting those who are so excited to bring a rescue baby into their lives.
These kittens have gone to wonderful homes with wonderful families, and we know they will be so loved ๐Ÿค

All pre-adoption applications were considered and were matched to kittens we felt would fit into each lifestyle and home.
We reached out to all potential families and meet and greets were organised in order of responses for those who still wished to adopt a kitten.
Meet and greets are a way for the kitties and humans to get a feel for each other and helps us ensure the kittens are going to feel comfortable with their potential owners, and that all the family are confident in their decision to adopt them.

Thank you to Heartlands Services in Taihape for letting us use their office space for the big day, and a special thank you to Jazz for organising it!
Having a place to hold all kittens at once instead of meet and greets scheduled at different foster homes made the process a lot easer.

This meet and greet/adoption day was an amazing success and we hope to hold more in the future ๐Ÿ˜ป

TRIGGER WARNING - INJURED KITTEN ๐Ÿ’”

This video might be hard to watch, but it is important that you do.
This is the result of undesexed cats.
This kitten is missing half of their tail and fur all up their leg and back end, leaving the flesh exposed, raw, and swollen.
I couldn't even tell if they were a boy or a girl ๐Ÿ˜ž
Their mama had given up on them.
The siblings were in much better condition, but had sore gunky eyes and were also drenched from the rain, dithering in the cold.

PLEASE desex your cats - including your male cats! The attitude of 'it's not my problem' is exactly how these poor kittens come to exist and suffer.
If you see strays, get them desexed. There are programs available for cheaper desexing, please ask.
Reach out to rescues for guidance.
If you can commit to feeding a stray or two who hang around your property, even better! These kitties can keep the mice and rats away and some end up becoming amazing companion cats - but most importantly, you will be saving them from a life of endless breeding and pain, as well as helping stop the cycle of suffering and dead kittens.
Rescues around New Zealand are at capacity. For as little as $15 a week in food you can save a stray AND save rescue space for those who need it most.

If the person who reached out to us about these babies had just turned a blind eye, they would have died last night.
They unknowingly saved three lives with one message, and we need you to do the same.

Don't look the other way - how you choose to respond can mean the difference between life and death ๐Ÿ’”

A night rescue mission for 3 kittens wasn't on my to do list today, but when we were contacted by a local who had seen them in a bush, off I went with a plan to feed them and trap tomorrow when I could find space for them.

My plan didn't quite go as I imagined, though.. I should know better by now ๐Ÿ˜…

What I came across were 3 tiny, sickly, drenched kittens dithering in the cold.
They ran straight up to us so I hurried back to the car to get a carrier - it didn't take much to scoop them up and pop them inside.
They wolfed down 2 packets of kitten meat on the drive home, and I raced to move the current kittens out of my bedroom and set these guys up a spot in there instead.

As I lifted each one out and checked them over, I found that two of them had gunky eyes. After a wipe and some ointment they were settled down to warm up.
The smallest kitten, however, was not in great shape.
The 'cut' that was spotted was in fact fur missing from his back leg, leaving a raw open wound. The fur in question was matted with p**p and dirt, all on his back end ๐Ÿฅบ On top of this he is missing half of his tail.

These kittens are only around 3-4 weeks old.
I am not sure how they would have gone through this cold night if I hadn't been alerted to their presence.

This is, sadly, nothing new for those in rescue work.
This is the result of undesexed cats.
Kittens are left to suffer. Mamas are left to suffer.
Please desex your cats. That INCLUDES your male cats - this, and worse, is what happens when you have the mindset of 'it's not my problem'.
If you are feeding a stray, get them desexed. Reach out to a rescue for support if needed. There are programs available for cheaper desexing and microchipping, you just have to ask.

We are at capacity but I couldn't just leave them out there. I grabbed them without even thinking of where they would go when I got home, let alone after that ๐Ÿ˜…
Thankfully Feral Nation have come to our aid once again and are able to take these babies in tomorrow. They are safe now ๐Ÿค

๐ŸŒธ READY FOR ADOPTION ๐ŸŒธ

Give her time & see her shine ๐Ÿ’•

Meet Bessie ๐Ÿค

Bessie is an ex-stray kitten (approximately 7-8 months old) who was trapped at the Taihape Museum two months ago. She was only ever seen alone or with her older ginger stray companion, who sadly had to be euthanised shortly before Bessie was trapped ๐Ÿ˜ž
She came to us with a swollen face from a bite wound, and another bite wound on her chest.
She had a course of antibiotics and tested negative for FIV/FELV, and after just one night in care was looking a lot better. It took her a while to realise humans can be kind but we know deep down she has so much love to give, she just needs to find her safe forever home ๐Ÿฅน

She has recently been making excellent progress in her foster home, the arrival of other foster kittens seemed to bring her out of her shell a bit and has shown her that humans and a life spent being loved isn't so bad!

While Bessie is making progress, she is still very shy, and we believe it would be best for her to find her forever home as soon as possible so she can settle in and truly flourish.
She has recently slept on her fosterers legs, an incredible leap in her socialisation, and shows just how quickly progress can snowball once they find that comfort. She is also not afraid to get right up in their faces to try and steal ice cream and chips ๐Ÿ˜น

Bessie is a sweet girl.
Her foster family says -
"Bessie is very shy, but wants to be more social, and with her ever growing confidence we can see she is capable of loving and being loved.
With Bessie it is a patience game, let her come to you not the other way round, she does learn behaviour from other cats which shows her willingness to grow. She is quite skittish but speaking to her, letting her know what your doing, even mundane tasks I feel helps her understand".

She would be best suited to a home with other friendly kitties to learn from and play with, she is a social kitty at heart.
Bessie requires a home with humans who are patient and understand that she will likely regress when moved into a new home, but progress will be built again.
She deserves a home full of love and understanding, and a family who can give her the time and gentle attention she needs to truly trust.

Bessie's adoption fee is $250, she is
๐Ÿพ Desexed
๐Ÿพ Microchipped
๐Ÿพ Up to date on flea treatment
๐Ÿพ Up to date on worm treatment
๐Ÿพ FIV/FELV negative
๐Ÿพ Litter trained
And will come with a packet of her wet meat and a ziplock bag of bikkies ๐Ÿ˜ป

If you can give Bessie the home she deserves, please send us a message to discuss further ๐Ÿค

โ—๏ธCAT OWNERS AND LOVERS, PLEASE READโ—๏ธ

The introduction of classing feral cats as pests has and will continue to result in the killing of pet cats, too.
Without establishing safeguards our cats are at risk.

Please read and consider signing this to protect our companion cats -
https://animaljustice.org.nz/predator-free-2050-feral-cats/?civiwp=CiviCRM&q=civicrm%2Fpetition%2Fsign&sid=18&fbclid=IwdGRjcAOq78ljbGNrA6oQIGV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkATAAAR5eCjhwSne_UcgUhgcpGADz_WOqECrwSiYvxGhAghQuedekDloGznX082-RYA_aem_3uAeaAjDDOiHI72AahGdQw

Ensure your cat is desexed, microchipped and that the microchip is registered on NZCAR.
Desexing is the first and best step you can take to helping the root cause of the issue. Microchipping and registering provides a layer of protection for your cat if it is trapped.

The vacuum effect is well documented through different species, including felines, and shows that culling does not fix the issue, it in fact increases breeding by allowing other cats to move in and thrive with the resources left by those killed. TNR (trap-neuter-return) is the best method to ensure the territory is maintained but the cats cannot continue to breed.

Education is important.
Instead of the mass culling of cats we should be sharing knowledge on stray vs feral cats, the benefits of desexing, microchipping and TNR programs, and creating easier opportunities for cat owners and rescues to access these treatments as they will benefit and protect New Zealands native biodiversity a lot more efficiently than the alternative.

Please share this far and wide!
We can do better, New Zealand ๐Ÿ’”

TAIHAPE COLONY FAMILY CAUGHT ๐Ÿ’•

After two very busy and long days (16 hours total) of trapping for myself and one of our wonderful volunteers, we have successfully caught Lion and her 4 kittens!

Lion has been with the colony since we took over feeding. We have posted about her before but no owner was found.

One day, tiny kittens turned up!
It took a while to figure out who they belonged to, especially with Lion being a ginger cat - who are predominantly male - but after identifying her as mama we started trying to trap.
So far we have had 4 adult ginger females in the colony, so it wasn't a huge surprise that Lion was a female, but we did want to rule out other kitties beforehand as she is a fluff ball so we did not realise she was pregnant!

We were having no success trapping, the kittens were too small to set the trap off, and then she moved them away ๐Ÿ™€
I found them again recently, and with confirmation of Feral Nation being able to take in the whole family as we have no space, we went all in with trapping.

We got two-for-one kittens on the first go!
Lion was next.
We had to use a can on a string method to catch the last 2, as they were still too light to set the trap off alone and refused to go in at the same time ๐Ÿ˜น

The little family is now safe in my bedroom, and they will all have a fighting chance at a real life with loving homes thanks to Feral Nation ๐Ÿ˜ป

Feral Nation and Pลneke Ngeru Rescue have both taken in kitties from us who we have had no space for/have struggled to adopt out.
Without them, we wouldn't be able to rescue anywhere near as many kitties from our small towns. We are so grateful to have had the privilege of meeting these incredibly hard-working and compassionate humans who share our commitment to helping animals in need ๐Ÿค
Please give them a follow and show them your support!

We are still urgently seeking fosters so we can continue rescuing kitties in need! If you have a room other animals can't enter and can provide love and patience, we will provide the rest! ๐Ÿค

โ—๏ธFOSTER HOMES NEEDED URGENTLY - FROM TAIHAPE TO HOROPITOโ—๏ธ

We cannot take in any more kitties unless it's an absolute emergency, nor can we continue trapping the colony we have been working on ๐Ÿ˜ž

We are in desperate need of foster homes for
๐Ÿพ Kittens ranging from 6-10 weeks old
๐Ÿพ Stray mamas and kittens who need socialisation

Food, litter, bedding, and vet care is provided, we just need you to give them time and love ๐Ÿค

To continue what we do, we need families who can help socialise and care for cats and kittens who are often scared and need help coming out of their shells. This usually ranges from a few weeks to a few months - But we can work with what works for you.

If you live anywhere from Taihape to Horopito and have space for a crate of fur babies (or a seperate room for them), send us a message and we can discuss the next steps!

Please share this post and help us secure more foster homes ๐Ÿพ
