My name is Nicki Cherrington, Last Chance Equine was originally founded in 2007 as an equine relief and rehab facility in the thermal wonderland of Rotorua, giving relief, rehabilitation and a last chance of life to unwanted horses destined for slaughter. This page was originally set up to share the progress of the horses we took in from relief to re-education to rehome and beyond. In 2015, I was forced to downsize numbers to almost nil due to relocating to a much smaller property. I have since relocated to the warm shores of Ruawai, a small town near Dargaville in Northland, and unfortunately can only take on needy horses one at a time to rehab and rehome so I have concentrated on providing my equine services to horse owners. I will still offer the once yearly Pro-Bono Behavioural Problem Solving opportunity to one problematic horse/owner as well as physical assistance/support with local horse rescue/uplift (incl cheap transport).

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to partake in fundraising activities for different charities each month. This month I've taken on Sweat with Pride! 💦🌈

Right now, schools, workplaces, and even doctors’ offices aren’t safe for many in our community—and it’s putting lives at risk. LGBTQIA+ Kiwis face higher rates of mental illness, su***de, and STIs like syphilis, mpox, and HIV.

So, I'm fighting discrimination with perspiration—exercising 42 minutes every day in June to raise money for life-changing Rainbow support services.

This cause means the world to me, and I’d be SO grateful if you could chip in to help me reach my goal. Every dollar makes a difference.
