Educate, Education & Educated... Thats my game plan for this evening;)
📝 An Education on Cat Flu
Even the healthiest kittens can sometimes develop mild cat flu — especially during the first 6–8 weeks after leaving their home. Stress from moving, travel, or exposure to other cats can temporarily lower their immune system. Symptoms may appear within 48–72 hours, which is completely normal and part of a kitten’s adjustment process.
At abraCATabra Cattery, we give our queens a booster before delivery and provide early immune support to kittens, helping them fight viruses effectively. Our state-of-the-art facilities, with stainless steel surfaces, climate control, and close veterinary care, help keep kittens safe and healthy. Our Kitten nursery is quarantined and climate controlled. Nobody is allowed inside unless they follow a strict procedure... But this will still not be enough for some kittens.
The great news is that most kittens make a full recovery, and as they mature, their immune systems become stronger and more resilient to everyday viruses.
This post is shared purely for education and awareness. Cat flu is a common virus found throughout New Zealand, and it can affect even healthy, well-cared-for cats. It’s no one’s fault — it’s simply part of feline life.
We believe this topic isn’t discussed enough in the wider cat community, and we’d love to create a safe space to share experiences, remedies, and knowledge — including natural approaches like NHV and other supportive treatments that some owners may not be aware of.
We welcome positive, respectful discussion and questions in the comments. Please remember this space is about learning and supporting one another, not blaming or criticising.
👉 Any comments that do not follow these guidelines or become negative in tone will be removed.
We’re always here to support owners with advice and guidance — including help choosing the right vet — so every kitten gets the best start in life. 🐾💛
