Everyone meet Fin!
Our new member to the Forge and Fleece team, he will play a big roll in helping me learn and grow on the Fleece side of things.
While we wait for him to be old enough to start sheering I can start trimming his hooves to add a little more variety than just horses and the odd donkey.

Well after a little break from trimming and training, I have made the decision to start on some of the Fleece side of Forge and Fleece. With the school Ag day coming up and lambs hitting the ground I've picked one of my own to rear and hopefully learn to sheer with help from a new friend of mine.

Now that I have settled into full-time work, I am slowly getting back into horse work.
And what do you know? My first start back was a few new but very welcome friends!

An update on Ghost, given her past in racing she has no issues with saddle pads or saddles but I like to take it slow anyway as you never know if they have had bad experiences.

Another beautiful mare to add to the group, Ghost.
She is a very pretty Grey mare with a lot of personality.
Some backstory and the plan for Ghost, she was trial raced twice but had an injury to her hind muscles in training for a third trial so was bred and sold as a maiden broodmare which is how we now have Cheese. Her future plan in to get her retrained and broke as a riding horse to take out for hunting and jumping.

An update on Socks.
We have brought the mares into the shed to work them previously but it takes them a few minutes to calm down and relax and my new strategy is to work with them in the paddock. This stops and stress they may have about the shed and also allows them to decide what they want to do, sometimes they want to be brushed and sometimes we can work on halters.
Socks definitely has anxiety issues with feeling trapped but when she is given the choice she is very affectionate and loves being pampered so the paddock method works wonders on her.

There's still work to do but Easy has improved so much in his back hooves. It's taken a while to get him comfortable with holding them to be trimmed but he has gotten much better and so I've been able to take off big chunks and clean them up more everytime.
Now that the toes have been trimmed up nicely this trim I will focus on taking down his heels to level the hooves and fix his angles.

Our next new friend is the beautiful 'Socks'. What started out as a nickname by the owner who hadn't named them but could only tell the two girls apart by well, her socks, has now stuck and is a pretty fitting name.
The plans for her are working on her attachment issues and getting her less fearful with people so she can be handled and sold to someone who will love her awesome cuddly personality.

As you could see in his intro photos Cheese is the new paddock mate for Easy.
We had concerns about putting them together straight away once demo was gone, so we waited two weeks and tried to split their paddock down the middle so they still had a boundary.
I wasn't too concerned about the mix as Easy has shown before that he is a very soft boy and just wants to have a friend.
They both got along really well and had no issues whatsoever and still play and hang out.
Our routine is that I bring in Easy to do some light work on him while cheese happily stays in the paddock till I bring his friend back, then I work with Cheese on being touched and having his halter on and off.
Eventually I will bring both boys in together to work on them for now it's easier to have both get their own turns.
