The day has dawned beautifully for what should be a great days racing. Just a reminder that we have some wonderful drink and food options available today. Bring the family down for a lovely day on the grass at Tauherenikau Racing & Event Centre.

The track has come up a perfect soft 5, please see below for race by race preview.

Race 1
Best Bet - 6 High Goal
The James/Wellwood team would not be travelling all this way for nothing. Won a trial nicely at Avondale in December and sure to run well.
Local Runner - 1 Keating (STACEY DOUGAN)
Returning from a spell this 5yo won a trial last year but is yet to show that form at the races.

Race 2
Best Bet - 7 The Explosive
Drops back from some strong 3yo races. Distance may be short of her best but if there is a genuine tempo she will be running on better than most.
Local Runner - 4 Written In Rock (ROGER ALLEN)
Improved effort here last start when 5th and we know Roger loves to win on this day.
Local Runner - 10 Tick Tock Tessa (JIM WALLACE)
Forgive her run last start when she slipped up the straight at Trentham. She trialled up very well before that start and she is a very good each way bet in this. A win would not surprise.

Race 3
Best Bet - 5 Hayworth
Tough field to select however Hayworth showed enough 2 starts ago to suggest a win is not far off.
Local Runner - 8 I Love Lucy (GERALD INNES)
Having first start and was well back in only trial, watching for now.

Race 4
Best Bet - 1 Basilthegreek
Stormed home here last start to finish a close 2nd. Can go one better today.
Local Runner - 4 Westside Gunn (GRANT NICHOLSON)
Should improve further on his fresh up 6th when only 6 lengths off the winner in a similar field.
Local Runner - 8 Time Heist (GERALD INNES)
Debut 7th last start over 1200m, makes the step up to 2050m today so will be interesting to see.

Race 5
Best Bet - 3 Platinum Goddess
Progressive type who was impressive winning in this grade last start, go again.

Race 6
Best Bet - 3 Poukawa
Bog drop in class for this horse and has placed here before, goes close.
Local Runner - 6 Subtle Image (ROGER ALLEN)
Another dropping back in class for this and would not be surprised if she sneaks a place here.

Join us for a fantastic day out at the beautiful Tauherenikau racecourse, where you can relax, enjoy the atmosphere, and take in all the action.

As in past years, all members and their guests are invited to enjoy all‑day hospitality in the Committee Room, with plenty of racing - and punting - in between. If you would like to become a member of the club please let us know.

We’re also pleased to have Miss Twister back again this year, offering face painting and balloon creations to keep the children entertained.

First Race: approx. 12.30pm

Take the Bus: – Departing Masterton Club, Chapel Street at 11.00am – Returning approx. 5.30pm (after the last race) – Pick‑up points along the way: • Carterton Bus stop/toilet area opposite New World • Greytown Butchery

From humble beginnings in Masterton to racing’s biggest stage — what a journey it’s been!

Huge congratulations to Aaron Bidlake, who has always been a dreamer — and this Saturday one of those dreams lines up in the Group 1.

His smart three-year-old Tulsa King will take on the prestigious HKJC World Pool New Zealand Derby (2400m) at Ellerslie Racecourse — a true test of class and stamina.

It’s incredible to see how far you and the team at Bidlake Racing have come. Hard work, belief, and plenty of early mornings have led to this moment.

Rain, shine, mud, dust—if it’s galloping, you’re on it. No fear, all balance, questionable life choices (but great stories).

He ran like his namesake as My Ferrari raced away from them at Otaki a couple of weeks ago. Trained by GERALD INNES and ridden by Liam Kauri, he was way too good for his rivals in a 3yo maiden. Congratulations to Gerald who also owns, this could be the first of many.

GERALD INNES gets his first win of the season as CUBA STREET was positively ridden by apprentice Amber Riddell to lead from start to finish and win the maiden 1700m event on the Awapuni Synthetic. Congratulations to Gerald who also owns the 4yo gelding.

ROGER ALLEN was back in the winners circle over the weekend with tough mare SUBTLE TEASE showing all her fighting qualities and leading all the way in Race 6 a Rating 65 1600m event at Trentham on Saturday. Fresh up since October last year it was a great training effort to have her ready to win on a very testing track. Congratulations to her owners the Subtle One syndicate.
