KWRC is saddened to acknowledge the passing of Mario Flego.

Mario was a valued member of KWRC for many years and will be fondly remembered alongside his beloved stallion, Doc's Durack, whose legacy within our sport speaks for itself.
Rest easy, Mario. You will be remembered.

FLEGO, Manlio Giuseppe (Mario). Passed away suddenly on Thursday 28th May 2026, as result of a tragic accident at home, aged 86 years. Dearly loved husband of Sue and loved Pop and Dad of Tony and Sheena and Richard Flego. Respected stepfather and father-in-law of Kelvin and Hazel, Reece and Mandy and Dene and Kelly Humphrey. Loved Pop, Grandpa and Grandad to 15 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. So hard to come to terms with, as Mario was a fit and healthy man, who will be dearly missed. No more stories to be told. Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at North Shore Hospital, who did all they could to save Mario. As per Mario's request, there will be no funeral, but a private Cremation. A gathering to celebrate Mario's life will be held in Taupo early 2027.

Yesterday, Kumeū Western Riding Club held our Club Day at J & J Training Facilities, and what a fantastic day it was!
The focus for the day was Western Trail, with members working through trail patterns, learning how to correctly read and walk a pattern before riding it, and developing the skills needed to confidently navigate obstacles. Understanding a pattern before entering the arena is an important part of competition, and it was great to see everyone improving throughout the day.
We also spent time discussing obstacle approach, horse positioning, and how small adjustments can make a big difference to a smooth and successful run. Most importantly, our riders had the opportunity to practise in a supportive environment, ask questions, and build confidence alongside fellow club members.
A huge thank you to J & J Training Facilities for allowing us to use their fantastic venue, and to everyone who came along and made the day such a success. It's always great to see members helping each other, sharing knowledge, and having fun with their horses.
Make sure you keep an eye on our Events page for upcoming Club Days, clinics, and other activities. We have plenty more planned and would love to see you there!
We look forward to seeing everyone at our next event!

We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Jools Topp.
Jools was a wonderful supporter of KWRC, a long-time show sponsor. “Topp Trail” was an event we held, and she was also a valued past member. Her love of horses and genuine passion for the equestrian community was always evident, and she will be remembered fondly by many.
Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Rest in peace, Jools.

Last weekend, we held our annual AGM at The Hive Bar and Restaurant. A huge thank you to the team there for accommodating us again this year — your support of our club is always greatly appreciated.

Thank you also to all our members who attended and continue to support KWRC throughout the year.

The new committee would first like to acknowledge and thank last year’s committee for all the hard work, time, and dedication they put into the club. A lot happens behind the scenes to keep things running, and we truly appreciate everything they contributed over the past season.
