Meet Faye 💛
This beautiful girl got herself into a lot of trouble last Friday! Her mum noticed a bar of dark chocolate had gone missing… and it didn’t take long to realise Faye was the likely culprit 🍫

Even though she seemed okay at first glance, Faye had a rapid heart rate and a dangerously high temperature when she arrived at the clinic. She was promptly admitted, placed on IV fluids, and given low-dose sedation to prevent her progressing to seizures.

With quick treatment, we managed to bring her temperature down from almost 40°C, and she was transferred to an emergency centre for continued care over the weekend.

We’re so relieved to say that Faye made a steady recovery and is now back home—happy, healthy, and hopefully staying far away from chocolate from now on! 💕🐾

How gorgeous is Mia? 💕
Just after arriving at her new home, Mia developed a rare condition called puppy strangles (juvenile cellulitis). It started with swelling around her eyes, then her neck lymph nodes, and finally a fever. Despite all these signs, she was still eating normally and playing with her new family!

This immune-mediated disease affects puppies between 3 weeks and 6 months and needs urgent veterinary care. Early signs include:
✅ Puffy eyelids or facial swelling
✅ Enlarged neck lymph nodes
✅ Fever, lethargy, or skin pustules
Treatment: High-dose steroids and supportive care can lead to full recovery if caught early. As the steroid treatment needs to suppress the immune system to enable the puppy to recover, a diagnosis is never made lightly.

Thanks to her owner’s diligent care, Mia is making a steady recovery.

Meet Doug!
This gorgeous boy developed a salivary mucocele under his tongue after damage to his right maxillary salivary gland caused saliva to leak into the surrounding tissue. Can you spot the large swelling in his pre-operative photo?

Doug had surgery last Thursday to remove the damaged gland and made an amazing recovery. By the next day, his surgical site looked beautiful—no swelling, and he was happily eating again!

To help us keep a close eye on his progress, Doug is sporting a Heyrex monitor on his collar. This clever device tracks his sleep quality, activity levels, and even lets us know if he’s having a cheeky scratch session. It gives us a whole range of valuable insights to support his recovery.

Baxter had his wellness check this morning and was such a good boy for his blood pressure reading! 🩺🐾 Bianca even joked she got to feel like a human nurse for a moment 😄

Thanks to our in-house IDEXX laboratory, we were able to run a full biochemical and CBC panel, plus an in-depth urine check — all in under 30 minutes. Safe to say… we love our lab here at Howick Village Vets! 🧪💙

Our resident pearl expert, chief greeting officer, and all-round good girl.

Willow is often in the studio keeping us company (and sometimes modelling fine jewellery like this string of pearls). She’s just as passionate about good design and warm welcomes as we are.

If you stop by the studio, don’t be surprised if she’s first to say hello. She’s got a great eye for craftsmanship and belly rubs.
