📸 A little PSA about AI…
The photos attached to this post were taken today while our dogs were on their daily walk.
They’re not AI generated.
They’re not AI enhanced.
They’re simply some happy snaps of our dogs doing what they do every day.
As AI becomes more advanced, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to tell what is real and what isn’t online.
This isn’t an anti-AI post. We use AI ourselves and think it’s an incredible tool.
But I do think people should be aware of just how powerful these tools have become.
We’re seeing a real rise in AI-generated and AI-enhanced content being used throughout the dog world, particularly in marketing across social media.
The technology has become so advanced that many people wouldn’t realise they’re looking at an altered image at all.
AI can create entirely new backgrounds, place dogs into settings they may never have actually been in, and create a lifestyle or image that may not accurately reflect reality.
It can also alter the dog itself.
With only a few prompts, proportions can be changed, faults or less desirable features can be corrected, and both adult dogs and puppies can be made to appear more appealing than they truly are. It’s truely wild what it can do.
I’m seeing these tools increasingly used in breeding announcements and puppy posts, where dogs have be altered to present perhaps a more desirable example of the breed than they may actually be, and where both the puppy and the environment around have been enhanced in ways that don’t necessarily reflect reality.
The challenge is that when alterations are being made to both the parents and the puppies, people are no longer seeing an accurate representation of either and may be making decisions based on images that don’t truly reflect the dog they’re bringing home or the dog that puppy is likely to mature into.
In many cases, the changes are subtle enough that even an experienced eye may not immediately notice them.
That’s why I encourage anyone looking, to look beyond the polished photos.
Ask for videos.
Ask for candid images.
Ask for photos from multiple angles.
Ask for a video call.
We love beautiful photos as much as anyone, and we’ll absolutely tidy up a background or remove a distraction from an image. But one thing we never do is alter the puppy or dog itself. In fact, whenever we use AI, our prompt always includes: “Make no adjustments whatsoever to the puppy or dog in the photo.”
We’ve spent years building a breeding program we’re proud of, and we believe our dogs should be shown exactly as they are.
Likewise, we don’t need to create an artificial lifestyle around them. The adventures, the walks, the muddy paws, the creek swims, the excursions, are already real.
AI is an incredible tool, and it’s here to stay. But authenticity still matters.
And perhaps now more than ever, it’s worth remembering that not everything online is exactly as it appears. Thanks for reading if you made it this far 🤓📖♥️
