It’s been a crazy few weeks with rescues, but this one really got to me.

We received a call via the SPCA about a “dumped rooster” at a local park in Wigram. When I spoke to the people who found it, alarm bells immediately rang — they said the bird was sleeping in bushes and could be easily picked up.

I asked them to secure the bird and keep it safe until I arrived… and honestly, I’m still lost for words.

It wasn’t a rooster — it was a sweet little hen.

Her eyes were sealed shut, likely from injuries, and it looked like she’d been used as a chew toy by a dog. She also had a cut to her throat around an inch long.

I got her back to base straight away, gave her pain relief, and she had a much-needed feed as she was absolutely starving. Amazingly, she made it through the night.

She saw the vet today and is now on a course of medication. The good news is she is an incredibly lucky girl — the injuries appear to be superficial and missed anything major, so we’re hopeful she will make a full recovery.

We’ve named her Spitfire 💛

If anyone would like to help towards Spitfire’s care, it would mean so much. Today’s vet bill alone was $209, and she will need ongoing treatment and follow-up visits.

Thank you to everyone who supports what we do — it truly makes rescues like this possible.

Two weeks ago I sent two handsome lads off to their new homes.

One boy went to live in Waipara and the other chap moved locally 😊

This is a video of one lad in his new home that his family sent me.

First day he was already looking after his new ladies and was herding them to safety as being in a new environment things can be abit scary.

Here he is watching over his ladies while they snack on Brocolli.
His family are doing an amazing job on enrichment and keeping the ladies entertained 🥰🥰🥰

Just want to do a shout out and thank People2Paws for their donation of oils.

I cant rate this product high enough!!!

We have been using the oils for the last 3 years for our dog who after knee surgery developed arthritis in both knees and vet meds were just making her fell ick.
The oils have helped our Gracie so much and definitely notice the difference if she missed a dose.

The last 18 months I have been giving a couple of drops to chickens if they come in abit flat and it seems to work really well 😊😊

These boys are now living their best life after being dumped and left for dead.

Unfortunately one was killed at the dumpsite by a dog and still have one to catch and once caught he will be joining his brothers.

Thanks to the amazing person who got the help and my amazing adopter for taking them in.

Without everyone's help we wouldnt be able to do what we do.
