Mac's valais blacknose sheep

This morning all the ewes were brought in. Everyone was crutched and had a trim up around their faces. A few of the ewes have started bagging up which means we might have a few Autumn lambs arriving in the next few weeks. Only half of our ewes had lambs in the spring so when our new Ram Rambo arrived we put him out with the ewes who were empty. Rambo has also gone out with the ewes today. We also have some new additions. On Thursday we had 5 ewes and 1 ram arrive from Canterbury. We are looking at potentially taking a different direction with our sheep in the future. These sheep are NU Gen Texels and are very low maintenance compared to the Valais. They have short wool, do not need to be crutched and short tails so no tailing. So far we are impressed with there quite nature's. They are only hoggets so we may or may not have lambs this coming spring.

We have been a bit slack at posting of late. Jobs have been getting ticked off with our new ram Rambo having his Brucella Ovis check completed before mating and having a cruch, tidy up around the face and a drench. Our ewes are looking fantastic as we have had so much feed this summer. The Ram will be going out this weekend.

This afternoon once the rained stopped we brought all the sheep in. We weaned the last of the lambs. I did FEC on the hoggets and lambs to check who needed a drench. Everyone is looking good. We have grass for Africa atm.

Super proud of Finley and Ninja today at the South Otago A&P show. In typical Valais fashion Ninja took everything in his stride and all Finleys practice payed off 🥰

We will be at the south otago A&P show this weekend with our pet lamb Ninja. Finleys been putting in the practice with his leading over the last few weeks 🥰

We have been ticking off a few jobs with the sheep over the past week or two. We tailed, castrated and vaccinated all our lambs. We are really happy with how they are growing. Sean also started shearing some of the ewes yesterday. The grass is growing, everyone is happy.

Today I went out and spent some time with our ewes and lambs, they all came up to say hello. We have some gorgeous F2 ram lambs looking for new 🏡 they will be weaned Nov and will be castrated then aswell. We also have 1 bottle fed F2 ram lamb looking for a 🏡 after 31st of October, his name is Nija and he is a real character! Pm for more info.

Another F2 ewe lamb born on Thursday morning. We have been very pleased with how lambing has been going so far despite the changeable spring weather. 7 ewes left to lamb.

We are a bit behind with the lamb updates, we had another 2 ewe lambs born and a set of twins, unfortunately the twins were born early on Thursday morning and by the time we got down to check on them 1 lamb had passed away the other twin was very small and was not strong enough to feed so we brought him up to the house and warmed him up. Because of his size we decided to bottle feed him. He is doing very and the kids love him. His name is Nija 🥰
