My own horse Stuie πŸ–€ 6yr TB. Barefoot for 3 years. Where we began and how it's going now!

Balance is one of the most important principles in a barefoot trim because the horse’s entire body depends on the hoof loading and landing correctly. A balanced hoof helps distribute weight evenly, supports healthy movement, and reduces unnecessary strain on joints, tendons, and ligaments. Even small imbalances can affect the way a horse moves and can lead to distortion, discomfort, or long-term soundness issues over time.

When rehabbing a hoof, patience and small changes are essential. Trying to make major corrections in a single trim can create more stress and soreness, while gradual adjustments allow the hoof and limb to adapt naturally. Consistent trimming over time encourages healthier growth, improved function, and a stronger, more stable hoof from the inside out.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick heads-up that from 1st May, my barefoot trim price will be increasing slightly to $70 per horse.

With the continued rise in diesel prices, I’ve had to make the decision to adjust my rates, as I’m no longer able to cover these additional costs myself.

I’ve kept this increase as minimal as possible, and I’m very grateful for your ongoing support and understanding. It truly means a lot and allows me to continue providing consistent, quality care for your horses.

If you have any questions or would like to chat, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Thanks so much,
Elise πŸ’œ

My go to method for thrush is as follows:

1. Hose off to get rid of ALL mud and debris (I find this better than picking out as the area can be deep and very sensitive).
2. Spray generously with 50/50 apple cider vinegar and water mix.
3. Put horse in a dry area and wait 5-10 mins for the underside of the hoof to dry.
4. Paint affected areas with any Zinc based product. Sole Food, Artimud, Hoof Dust, Sudocrem or make your own.

Repeat a few times a week and you should see these areas start to dry out and fill in with healthy tissue πŸ’œ

P.S. Same protocol for Seedy Toe and White Line Disease

Picked out an interesting cadaver to explore at the hoofcare flash mob. It showed signs of abcessing, founder and the pedal bone about to protrude through the sole. What I found inside was an absolute mess!
Septic pedal osteitis! A severe, often chronic, bacterial infection of the coffin bone inside a horse's hoof that results in tissue death (necrosis) and bone demineralization. This condition is usually a complication of a deep, untreated, or chronic hoof abscess, or severe laminitis.
Primarily diagnosed through radiographs (x-rays) showing bone density loss or fragments of dead bone.
