A Special Update From RRA 🐰💛

Today, we said goodbye to six of our sweet rescue bunnies as they left our care and hopped toward their next chapter. 🧳✨
Five of these precious buns were lovingly transferred to trusted hands to continue their journey toward loving forever homes, and one was adopted into a wonderful new family.

Every goodbye is bittersweet — but knowing they’re safe, loved, and one step closer to where they belong fills our hearts with hope. 💫🐾

Thank you to everyone who supports our work — every share, donation, and kind word helps make these moments possible. 💖

Goodbye to momma Lola, Pearl,Cinnamon, Marshmallow, Willow and Grayson.

🖤🐰 How to Trim Your Rabbit's Nails Without Harming the Quick! ✂️🐾

Keeping your bunny’s nails trimmed is part of being a great bun parent — but did you know that cutting too far can cause pain and bleeding?

💡 The “quick” is the blood vessel inside your rabbit’s nail. Cutting into it hurts your bun and may cause bleeding. Here's how to avoid it:

✅ For clear nails: You’ll see a pink line — that’s the quick. Only trim the tip beyond it.
✅ For dark nails (like in the photo below): Shine a torch underneath to spot the quick. If unsure, just snip 1–2mm off the end!

📌 Tip: If you see a small dark dot in the middle of the clipped nail — stop! That means you’re close to the quick.

🧰 Always keep styptic powder or cornstarch on hand to stop bleeding just in case.

🐰🌿 Natural Flea Spray for Bunnies
Rabbit-safe | Chemical-free | Rescue-friendly

Looking for a gentle, natural way to help your rabbit stay flea-free this season? Here’s a homemade spray using ingredients you may already have at home — safe for buns when used carefully.

🧴 Bunny Grooming Spray Recipe:
Mix the following in a clean spray bottle (500ml size):

✔ 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
✔ 1 tsp fresh aloe vera gel (straight from the plant if possible)
✔ 2 tsp lemon juice
✔ Top up with 500ml cool, filtered water

🧽 Shake gently before use. Lightly mist your bunny’s fur, avoiding eyes, nose, and ge****ls. Groom through with a soft flea comb. Use once daily as needed. Always patch test on a small area first.

🛏️ Bedding Spray (for litter trays, hutches, mats, blankets):
✔ Mix ½ tsp apple cider vinegar into 1L of water
✔ Lightly spray on cleaned, dry bedding — let it dry before bun returns

🚫 Important Reminders:

Never spray directly into eyes or near face

Not a substitute for vet care if infestation is severe

Suitable for mild flea management and prevention in healthy rabbits

🌿 Why it works:

Apple cider vinegar helps repel fleas naturally

Aloe vera soothes skin and adds shine to the coat

Lemon juice is antibacterial and deodorising

🐾 Chemical-free, bunny-friendly — made with love 💛

🐰✨ From Newborn Kit to Forever Home ✨🐰
Charlie has Been Adopted!

We are overjoyed to announce that Snuggles has officially hopped into the arms of his new forever family! 💖🏡

Born into rescue, Charlie has been with us since he was a tiny, vulnerable newborn kit — eyes closed, ears flat, completely dependent. We’ve watched him grow day by day, from snuggling in the nest to confidently exploring the world with his gentle, curious nature. 🐇🌿

Now, he begins a brand-new chapter in a home full of love, warmth, and bunny-safe adventures. 🥰

To everyone who supported his journey, thank you. Your kindness makes miracles like this possible. 💕

Go well, little Charlie — we’ll miss you, but our hearts are full knowing you’re exactly where you belong. 💫 Our volunteer Saffron who cared for you will miss you.

🌿 A Huge Thank You to Manwar from Burswood! 🌿

We're incredibly grateful to Manwar for the generous donation of fresh parsley and mint for our rescue bunnies! 🐰💚

Our rabbits are absolutely loving the abundance of these fragrant herbs. Not only are they delicious, they’re also packed with goodness:

Rich in Vitamins & Minerals – Support immune health, bone strength, and overall vitality

Aids Digestion – Gentle on bunny tummies and supports healthy gut function

Freshens Breath – Mint is a natural breath freshener that bunnies enjoy

Natural Enrichment – Chewing herbs keeps rabbits mentally stimulated and helps wear down teeth

Parsley and mint can be fed 2–3 times per week as part of a varied diet that includes unlimited hay, fresh water, and a mix of leafy greens (see more at bunnyvet.co.nz).

Thank you, Manwar, for your kindness and support. Our buns are thriving thanks to people like you!

Aroha in Action – Thank You, Shirley Kate!
🐰✨✉️

We want to highlight a message we received from Shirley Kate, who shared our team leader’s response to a found rabbit.

Her message reminded us how important it is to know what to do when you see a roaming bunny. Here’s a helpful guide:

🌙 Did you know?

Rabbits are Crepuscular, which means they are most active during dawn and dusk. These twilight hours are when they naturally come out to eat, explore, and play.
What to Do If You See a Healthy Rabbit Outside:

1. 🌳 Gently tap the ground with a stick.
– A free-roaming rabbit may thump its feet and head back in the direction of home.

2. 🔍 If the rabbit seems lost or lingers too long:
– Stay low and calm — rabbits are quick and easily spooked.
– Capturing a rabbit takes time and patience.

3. 🧺 If you catch the rabbit:
– Place it in a cat carrier with:
• A cozy blanket
• Fresh hay, or in an emergency: long grass (pesticide-free) and leafy greens
• A small bowl of water
– Cover the carrier with a towel to reduce anxiety.

4. 🤖 Take it to be scanned for a microchip:
– Head to your nearest vet or:
• VSA – Veterinary Specialists Auckland (Sylvia Park)
• Manukau After Hours Vet Care
