Still Looking for Their Forever Homes 🏑🐾

A few months ago, Puntu came to us as a rescue after concerns about her swollen belly. That same night, she gave birth to 8 beautiful puppies under our care. Thanks to love, safety, and proper care, they’ve grown into healthy, playful, and affectionate little companions.

Out of her beautiful puppies, 4 have already been adopted into wonderful families. We are now looking for good homes for the remaining 4 puppies- 1 male, 3 females.

As much as we care for them, staying long-term in a rescue environment can increase their risk of infections and stress, especially as they grow older. These puppies have grown up surrounded by care and human affection, and we hope to find families who will continue giving them the love and protection they deserve. They are active, friendly, and at the perfect age to bond with their future families.

To support responsible adoption, HART will provide:
🐾 Free anti-rabies vaccination
🐾 Free sterilization at the appropriate age

If you’re looking to welcome a furry friend into your life, one of these little souls may be waiting just for you.

Late PostπŸ“
Satellite Neutering Camp in Panini Rural Municipality, Arghakhanchi District🐾

Following the series of dog sterilisation and vaccination camps in Kanchanpur district conducted in collaboration with , where the HART Nepal team sterilised and vaccinated 323 dogs, the team then travelled to Arghakhanchi district.

HART Nepal was invited by VHLSEC Arghakhanchi and the Veterinary Section of Panini Rural Municipality to conduct a pilot dog sterilisation program in the area. The program, funded by VHLSEC Arghakhanchi, had a target of 115 dogs.

Altogether, 119 dogs were brought for sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination. The team travelled to different villages to collect dogs from villagers and farmers who wished to sterilise their dogs. It was encouraging to see that the Veterinary Section of Panini Rural Municipality had already conducted anti-rabies vaccination campaigns in the area during .

Working in hilly regions always brings logistical challenges, especially transportation and road access. There was also no fuel station in the village, so the team had to stock fuel for collecting dogs and for the journey. Thankfully, all HART vehicles are 4x4, which helped the team safely reach difficult areas.

During the program, 62 female dogs were spayed and 57 male dogs were castrated.

On the way, the team also visited Supa Deurali Temple to offer prayers and seek blessings for a safe journey and good health throughout the camps.

Altogether, the team stayed away from home for 16 days during this outreach journey and has now safely returned to base after successfully completing the camps. After taking a few days of well-deserved rest, the team is now back to work with full energy and dedication.

With gratitude,
HART Nepal

The HART Nepal team has successfully concluded the dog sterilisation outreach program in Beldandi Rural Municipality, Kanchanpur district, marking the final phase of the collaborative project supported by Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN).

Beldandi was identified as an important intervention area due to the presence of a Gaushala and increasing interactions between feral dogs and vultures around carcass disposal sites. Managing the dog population in such areas is important not only from an animal welfare and community perspective, but also for maintaining ecological balance and supporting long-term vulture conservation efforts.

Despite difficult weather conditions during the earlier phase of the project in Belauri Municipality, the team continued the outreach work in Beldandi with dedication and determination. The additional sterilisation efforts carried out here helped achieve the overall target of the project.

Alongside sterilisation surgeries, anti-rabies vaccinations and basic treatments were also provided. Following recovery, all dogs were safely returned to their familiar territories.

We sincerely thank Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) for their support, coordination, and commitment to this collaborative initiative. We are equally grateful to the Veterinary Section of Beldandi Rural Municipality for their immense support throughout the program. The municipality kindly provided a hall for the surgical camp, and one municipal staff member was delegated to assist the HART team in properly recording the wards from where the dogs were caught.

Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to the local authorities, community members, dog catchers, volunteers, and everyone who supported the program in the field. Such collaboration plays a vital role in the success of humane dog population management programs.

The Chief Executive Officer of Beldandi Rural Municipality also highlighted the importance of continuing such programs in the coming years, recognising their positive impact on animal welfare, public health, community safety, livestock protection, and biodiversity conservation.

The HART Nepal team is now travelling to Arghakhanchi district to continue sterilisation work in two municipalities. Please stay tuned for more updates from the field.

With gratitude,
HART Nepal

DOG STERILISATION PROGRAM CONTINUES IN BELAURI MUNICIPALITY – KANCHANPUR DISTRICT🐾

Following the successful completion of the PILOT dog sterilization program in Laljhadi Rural Municipality, the HART Nepal team moved on to Belauri Municipality in Kanchanpur district.

In Belauri, dog neutering programs had been conducted twice in previous years. This was the third intervention in the area. One of the challenges we faced was identifying dogs that had been sterilized earlier, as some of them had not been ear-notched. As a result, we had to rely heavily on information provided by local community members, and dogs identified by the community as previously sterilized were not caught.

The work continued for three consecutive days. However, the third day proved particularly challenging due to rain, and we were unable to reach our intended target. Nevertheless, we decided to increase the numbers in Beldandi Rural Municipality, where a Gaushala is located and where there have been concerns regarding vultures and feral dogs competing over carcasses.

Altogether, 116 dogs were sterilized, vaccinated, and returned safely to their respective territories in Belauri Municipality.

We remain grateful to Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) for facilitating and supporting this important outreach work in the region.

The team is now in Beldandi Rural Municipality to wrap up the project with BCN. Please stay tuned for further updates from the field.

With gratitude,

Rescue Diaries: Meet Shree 🐾

Shree was rescued from Bharatpur by a caring member of the community who noticed his painful condition and could not leave him behind. He immediately called us for help. At that time, our HART team was busy with a neutering campaign, so we requested him to bring Shree to our clinic. With great effort and the help of a friend, he safely brought Shree to us.

When Shree arrived, his condition was critical. He had a deep wound on his head filled with maggots, and some tissue had already been damaged. Our team immediately removed a large number of maggots and started treatment. He was very weak and did not eat for the first few days.

With consistent treatment, care, and love, Shree slowly began to recover. His wound started healing, and he gradually regained his strength and appetite, eventually gaining healthy weight. Once his wound healed completely, he was neutered and vaccinated against rabies for his own well-being and the better health of his community. He remained under our care for more than a month until he was ready for discharge.

After his full recovery, we contacted his community member, and yesterday he came to take Shree back home. Shree has now been reunited with his rescuer and safely returned to the community where he belongs.

A heartfelt thank you to his rescuer for stepping forward at the right time and giving him a second chance at life.

Rescue Diaries: Meet BennyπŸΎπŸ’›
Benny was rescued on March 22nd from Birauta, Pokhara-17 by a kind animal lover Mr. Bhim Bahadur Pariyar. He was found in a painful state, with multiple wounds across his shoulder, legs, belly and crotch area. The belly area had a deep lacerated wound that was already infected and he was also suffering from a severe worm infestation.
Our medical team immediately cleaned his wounds and dressing was done. He was treated with antibiotics, painkillers and deworming medicines. An e-collar was put to prevent from self trauma.
Benny was quite active and often managed to damage his wounds making recovery challenging. To support his recovery a tie-over bandage technique was applied. During his stay, Benny also underwent castration as he was a cryptorchid case and received his anti-rabies vaccination.
After a month of patience and care he was beautifully recovered and ready to go back to his place. His rescuer came to pick him up on April 22.
Thank you everyone involved in giving Benny a second chance in life. πŸΎπŸ’›

PILOT DOG STERILISATION PROGRAM IN LALJHARI RURAL MUNICIPALITY – KANCHANPUR DISTRICT

A pilot dog sterilization program was successfully conducted in Laljhadi Rural Municipality, Kanchanpur district.

The veterinary section of Laljhadi Rural Municipality kindly arranged a room and working space at the hall of Anmol Agriculture Cooperative Society Limited, which also serves as a community seed bank for local farming. This space became our base for the program.

A total of 103 dogs were sterilized, vaccinated, and safely returned to their respective locations.

Overall, the condition of the dogs was good. Only a small percentage showed signs of mange, while the majority were in good health with satisfactory body condition scores.

At present, Laljhadi Rural Municipality does not have a dedicated budget for dog sterilization. However, there is a growing realization of the importance of such programs. A common concern raised by the community is the increasing number of free-roaming dogs forming packs, which at times attack baby goats and prey on chickens.

We would like to thank Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) for facilitating this program in the area. While the broader mission is to support vulture conservation, dog population management clearly has far-reaching impacts across multiple dimensions livelihoods, community safety, and ecosystem balance.

The team now moves on to Belauri, aiming to sterilize another century of dogs.

Please stay tuned for further updates.

With gratitude,
HART Nepal

Update from Far Western Region

The bulk of the HART team from both bases is currently in the far western region of Nepal.

This time, our dog neutering program is being conducted in partnership with Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN), the Nepal partner of the global BirdLife International network. BCN is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats in Nepal.

This collaboration brings a slightly different but very important dimension to our work.

The program is being carried out across three municipalities and rural municipalities in Kanchanpur district, with the broader objective of supporting vulture conservation in the region. BCN has been actively working to protect vulnerable vulture species, and this initiative complements that effort.

It is a good example of how interconnected our ecosystem truly is. Both dogs and vultures are scavengers. In rural areas where there is strong potential for vulture conservation, an unchecked and growing dog population can disturb this natural balance.

By managing the dog population humanely through sterilisation and vaccination, we aim to reduce this pressure and contribute, in a small but meaningful way, to the protection of vultures.

The target for this project is to neuter 320 dogs. We will continue to share updates as the work progresses.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this work.

With gratitude,
HART Nepal
