Please say no to Krill Oil!
Overfishing of krill poses a significant threat to marine life. Krill are a foundational species in the ocean ecosystem, especially in regions like the Southern Ocean. They serve as a primary food source for many marine animals, including whales, seals, penguins, and various fish species. When krill populations are depleted, it disrupts the food chain, threatening the survival of species that rely on them.
Krill are also vital for carbon sequestration. They feed on phytoplankton, which absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. As krill consume phytoplankton and later release waste, they help transfer carbon from the surface to the ocean depths, playing a role in regulating atmospheric CO2 levels.
Overfishing of krill, driven by demand for products like fishmeal, pet food, and dietary supplements, can lead to ecological imbalances.
