This water rail won the skeleton category with 98 points. It was in several pieces after arriving in Coralville, but luckily there was time to repair it at the hotel 😅
I’m lucky to be able to hone my skills every now and then at my day job at NTNU where one of my tasks is to expand our Anatomical Collection. Besides the focus on human anatomy, we also established a growing comparative anatomy collection which is great fun to work on!

Here’s the first of the three skeletons I had with me to the World Taxidermy and Fish Carving Championships 2024 in Coralville, Iowa. It’s an Eurasian nuthatch and it received 96 out of 100 points, which means a first prize. Today I want to thank my friend, colleague and fellow artist .art for taking these nice pictures, without her you and I would have to do with some badly lighted, unrecognisable pixels.
It was great fun attending the championships, I got to meet so many talented and kind people, that I just have many good memories to look back at now. I would have never gotten here without the mentorship and guidance from .fredriksson who I am proud to call my friend and teacher in the field of wildlife art. He himself did not bad by claiming the World Champion title with a taxidermy wood pigeon in the game bird category. Please check out these fine folks!
