Heads up if you're heading to international shows this summer. 🐴🚨
A question we get a lot: do I actually need a tachograph in my horsebox? The short answer: it depends, but the rules are changing...
Currently ➡ a tachograph is required for commercial vehicles with a permitted maximum mass (including trailer) of over 3,500 kg. Private transport for your own hobby is often still exempt, but the moment you're transporting professionally, the rules fully apply.
From 1 July 2026 ➡ things get stricter. Any vehicle with a PMM of 2,500 kg or more used for international transport, must be fitted with a smart tachograph version 2. And yes, that includes the B-licence horseboxes. So if you're professionally taking a horse to a show or inspection abroad, this applies to you.
Worth knowing: non-compliance comes with serious fines (!) and your transport can be stopped on the spot.🚛
