Some time ago, I mentioned in a group that we fast our dogs once a week and I was talked down on. But this is something we’ve practiced for a long time at our kennel, and the benefits speak for themselves.
Once a week, our Boels skip their regular meals and are given meaty bones in the evening only. This gentle fast offers real benefits:
Digestive Reset :: Gives their system a break, helping reduce gas, bloating, and minor tummy issues.
Natural Detox : Supports the liver and kidneys to focus on detoxifying the body instead of constantly digesting food.
Cellular Repair (Autophagy) : A process where damaged cells are cleared and new ones are created. Linked to better health and longevity.
It may not be for everyone but it works for us.

Note: This is not suitable for puppies, underweight, or senior dogs.

We believe in sharing the moments that leave a mark on our hearts because sometimes, through our stories, others find strength or a reminder that God still works miracles.

During a routine treatment, our boy Jojolo was accidentally given 10ml more than the correct dose of Diminazene. Breeders know how dangerous that is. We only discovered the mistake 3 days later when I saw the size of syringe that was used in the trash and by then, he was already showing signs of distress. His liver was severely damaged. Vets told us, “He won’t make it.” My heart broke! He was just starting his journey.

With little hope left, I turned to El-Roi, the God who sees. I placed his case on the fire altar of NSPPD, played the “Oh Lord, Show Me Mercy” prayers at night while he was on infusion. And truly, El-Roi came through. For over 5 weeks, Jojolo fought for his life. But God showed himself fathful and proved yet again Indeed, what God cannot do does not exist.

A special thank you to Osazee Idehen of Subline Kennels, Benin. You never gave up even when others did. You answered every call, every message even at 2am. I remember asking, “You no dey sleep?” I’ll never forget when Jojolo barked again after 6 weeks, and you said, “Jojolo is back.” Thank you for your endless support and valuable lessons you have shared along the way.

From all of us at Iwinosa Boerboels, we return all the glory to God. May this testimony remind somieone when all hope seems lost, God is still able.

IWINOSA – This is indeed God’s work.

Throwback Thursday!

Nomadic Diego (Al Asaad Baracuda Le Piona × Al Asaad Paige Le Piona)
A solid blend of Piona over Rustverwacht, with a splash of Nostras and Grassland. Diego was one well put together stud. Strong, balanced, and true to type.
He produced some outstanding offspring, sadly unregistered, as he was primarily used during what I call the “dark age” (2013–2016). Nigeria had its first appraisal in 2013, but the awareness around the value of appraised, purebred dogs just wasn’t there yet. Many good dogs slipped through the cracks.
I got Diego when he was seven even though i was instrumental in importing him at 18 months, hoping for at least one litter from him I’ve always been, and still am, a sucker for the old lines. I managed to get him appraised at eight. I remember the day I took this photo six years ago, he had just had a bath, and I figured a quick picture wouldn’t hurt. It turned out to be one of his best shots. He was such a natural poser.
His grandkids and great-grandkids are still out there, though unregistered non-peds now. I wish we could’ve preserved more of those lines… but sadly, we can’t save them all.

We always knew the Irish gene was in the line and we’ve been praying for it to show up. And now… it has!
Thank God for answered prayers!
To our newest little blessings: Welcome to the family. You’re already cherished beyond words. While we promise to find each of you the best forever homes, a couple of you are definitely staying right here with us.
(Truth be told, we wish we could keep you all!).

Got a call this morning from one of our puppy owners.
“Good morning, madam. Trust you and yours are well?” I asked.

Her response came quick and with panic in her voice:

“Oga Iwinosa, we are not fine.”

Apparently, they woke up to find Adenike’s head swollen.

They weren’t sure if she bumped into something or had a reaction… Naturally, they were worried.

While trying to calm her down, I asked a few questions.

Her answers?
Let’s just say… they made me smile.

(Experienced Boerboel owners, you probably know why.)

What do YOU think it could be?
Is this something to worry about or just another puppy phase?
Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments.
Your experience might help a fellow dog parent today.

It’s raining cats and dogs at the moment! We had to head out to check if any of our fur babies needed attention. While the pups took shelter from the downpour, I decided to do a little test especially since they’ve just moved to this part of the kennel and aren’t fully familiar with it yet.
As we called out to them, most were hesitant to come, understandably cautious with the rain, thunder, and lightning rumbling around. But not our adventurous girl, Iyèki, the same little rascal who, at just over three weeks old, had already ventured out of her whelping box while her siblings stayed put while the whelping room was being cleaned. True to form, she didn’t disappoint! With a swoosh through the water, she came running to us, unfazed by the storm.
I think it’s time to take her to the stream nearby. It’s always good to expose pups to different scenarios while they’re young as it helps build confidence and resilience.

Adesuwa and Osagie during their dip. We’re hoping history repeats itself in all the best ways, drawing from the legacy of their grandfather, Iwinosa Asiwaju Osazee, and great-grandmother, Iwinosa Asiwaju Adesuwa.
Their mother is a 3/13 on SA Superior Lasarus a legend in his own right. We’re excited about the future, carefully planning to pair this duo with a carefully selected male from the old lines. Speaking of the old lines, during a recent conversation with an old friend, he confirmed that these are the only dogs in Nigeria whose pedigree traces back locally to 2007. We would be glad to hear if there are others to counter that claim.
Until then, we watch and pray as Adesuwa and Osazee grow into everything we hope and believe they will be.

Osaide… one of the few bi***es left in Nigeria with a pedigree untouched by the popular sires : no Rambo, Benji, Son of a Gun( though he really was not a direct popular sire), Rafa, Havoc, or any of the other big names from the early and late 2000s.
Finding it hard to get a male without a popular sire in their pedigree these days to pair her with..
