πŸ‡ NOT EVERY FALL RESULTS IN PREGNANCY!

In rabbit farming, witnessing a successful mating (fall-off) does not automatically mean the doe is pregnant.

Several factors can influence conception, including:

- Buck fertility: The male may have poor s***m quality or low s***m count.
- Doe's reproductive health: Not every doe is in the right condition to conceive.
- Timing: Hormonal conditions and the doe's receptiveness can influence successful fertilisation.
- Environmental stress: Heat, stress, poor nutrition, and other environmental factors can affect reproductive performance.

πŸ’‘ A good farmer doesn't just record mating; a good farmer confirms pregnancy!

Palpation can be performed around 10–14 days after mating to check for pregnancy, provided it is done correctly and gently.

Remember: Mating is an attempt; pregnancy is the result!

🐰🌱 WHY RABBITS LOVE GREEN GRASS

Rabbits naturally enjoy chewing on fresh green grasses, and there's a good reason for it!

Unlike humans, rabbit teeth grow continuously throughout their lives. Regular chewing on fibrous grasses and hay helps wear down their teeth naturally, preventing overgrowth and maintaining proper dental health.

Beyond dental benefits, grasses are an excellent source of fibre, which is essential for healthy digestion, proper gut movement and preventing digestive problems.

This is why fresh grass and good-quality hay should be important parts of a rabbit's daily diet.

Remember: A rabbit that chews regularly is not just enjoying its meal; it's also maintaining healthy teeth and a healthy digestive system.

🌱 Feed them right, keep them healthy!

Who remembers these little ones? 🐰❀️

Their mother gave birth to 10 beautiful kits, and today, they are 15 days old!

These little fighters have been surviving on cow's milk since they were just 7 days old because their mother became seriously ill. She stopped eating, drinking, and passing faeces, leaving her unable to properly care for her babies.

To avoid losing both the mother and her kits, I decided not to separate them completely, as I didn't want to add the stress of separation to her already difficult situation. Instead, I made sure the kits didn't disturb her to suckle and gradually introduced them to self-feeding while providing the necessary support.

Now, here's the GOOD NEWS! πŸŽ‰

Their mother is responding positively to treatment. She can now pass faeces, urinate, and even eat a little. It's a great sign of recovery!

And guess what? All 10 kits are still alive and developing! ❀️

It's been a challenging journey, but we're staying hopeful and praying that all 10 make it through this difficult period.

Sometimes, being a rabbit farmer goes beyond breeding and feeding; it takes patience, sacrifice, and the determination not to give up.

Drop a BIG HEART ❀️ for this brave mother rabbit. She deserves all the love! 🐰❀️

🀣🀣 WHAT EXACTLY IS GOING ON HERE? πŸ€”πŸ˜‚

Abeg, somebody should come and explain this situation to me! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

Is this one still a baby that his mother has to carry him on her back? 🍼🀣 Or is Mama running a free transportation service for grown adults? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

At this point, I have so many questions and absolutely no answers! πŸ€”πŸ€£

Mummy, please drop him! Let him use his own legs! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

Or is there something we don't know? πŸ‘€πŸ€£

Abeg, over to the experts in the comment section! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘‡

Mortality is an unfortunate part of livestock farming, and sometimes, despite our best efforts, we may lose some animals. However, what makes you a good farmer is not just avoiding losses but knowing how to minimize mortality and manage your farm effectively.

As a responsible rabbit farmer, you must prioritize proper feeding, clean water, good hygiene, adequate ventilation, disease prevention, and regular monitoring of your rabbits. Whenever a rabbit dies, investigate the possible cause and take corrective measures to prevent similar losses.

Remember: Don't just count your losses; learn from them! A good farmer turns every challenge into an opportunity to improve farm management.

At Phenfarm, our goal is not to pretend that losses never happen but to keep learning, improving, and reducing them as much as possible. πŸ’―πŸ°
I just lost this doe, suddenly, to diarrhea, all happened within 24hrs...

Tell us, rabbit farmers: What is the biggest challenge you face in reducing mortality on your farm? πŸ‘‡

🐰 SHARP UPDATE FOR RABBIT FARMERS!

How do you save rabbit kits when their mother is sick or dead and you have no nursing doe available for fostering?

1️⃣ Keep them warm: Place the kits in a clean, dry nesting box. Newborn kits cannot regulate their body temperature effectively.

2️⃣ Choose suitable milk: A commercial kitten milk replacer may be used as a substitute. I prefer to use Dano product...

3️⃣ Feed carefully: Use a small feeding syringe or suitable feeding ni**le. Keep the kit belly-down and allow it to swallow tiny drops voluntarily. Never force milk into its mouth, as milk entering the lungs can be fatal.

4️⃣ Avoid overfeeding: Rabbit milk is highly concentrated, so the amount required depends on the kit's age, weight, and the milk substitute used.

5️⃣ Monitor their progress: Weigh each kit daily and watch for weakness, diarrhoea, abdominal swelling, or failure to gain weight.

🐰 QUESTION FOR YOU: Have you ever successfully raised orphaned rabbit kits without a foster doe? Share your experience in the comments. πŸ‘‡
