AKINADE FARMS TRAINING SERIES 🐔📊
Topic: Cost Breakdown for Raising 100 Broilers (0–6 Weeks)
At Akinade Farms, we believe in practical knowledge that helps you make informed decisions before going into poultry farming. Let’s walk through a realistic cost analysis using current market prices.
🔹 Current Prices:
• Day-old chick: ₦1,700
• Starter feed: ₦23,000 per bag
📊 FEED CONSUMPTION (0–6 WEEKS):
A broiler consumes about 3.9kg of feed within 6 weeks.
For 100 birds:
3.9kg × 100 = 390kg total feed
1 bag = 25kg
390kg ÷ 25 = approximately 16 bags
💰 FEED COST:
16 bags × ₦23,000 = ₦368,000
🐥 COST OF CHICKS:
100 birds × ₦1,700 = ₦170,000
⚙️ OTHER COSTS (Estimated):
• Drugs & vaccines: ₦20,000
• Litter & setup: ₦15,000
• Miscellaneous: ₦5,000
Total: ₦40,000
💵 TOTAL PRODUCTION COST:
₦368,000 (feed)
₦170,000 (chicks)
₦40,000 (other)
= ₦578,000
📌 COST PER BIRD:
₦5,780
📌 COST PER SURVIVING BIRD (85% survival rate):
≈ ₦6,800
📍 TRAINING INSIGHT:
Mortality is one of the biggest hidden costs in poultry production.
The fewer birds you lose, the more profit you retain. Good management is key.
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE:
This calculation does not include profit.
Depending on your location and market demand, you may add ₦2,000–₦2,500 per bird as your margin.
💬 From Akinade Farms:
This is a guide to help you plan better — not a fixed rule.
Your management, feeding practice, and biosecurity will determine your final outcome.
📣 Let’s interact:
Farmers, how many bags do you use for 100 birds from 0–6 weeks?

CALCIUM DEFICIENCY: is a common nutritional disorder in poultry, especially in laying hens. Calcium is essential for eggshell formation, bone development, muscle function, and metabolic processes. Birds require a steady supply of calcium because they cannot store enough to meet daily egg-laying demands.

CAUSES OF CALCIUM DEFICIENCY

1. Inadequate dietary calcium
Low-calcium feeds

Poor-quality feed ingredients

Use of grains without proper mineral supplementation

2. Imbalanced calcium-to-phosphorus ratio
Ideal ratio: 2:1

Excess phosphorus reduces calcium absorption

3. Vitamin D₃ deficiency

Vitamin D₃ is needed for calcium absorption in the intestine

4. High production stress

Layers producing large eggs or at peak lay have higher calcium needs

5. Poor feed intake
Disease, heat stress, overcrowding

PREVENTION AND CONTROL

1. Provide adequate dietary calcium

Layer diets: 3.5–4.5% calcium

Broiler diets: 1.0–1.2% calcium

Use limestone or oyster shells (fine or coarse form)

2.Reduce stress

Good ventilation
Avoid overcrowding
Proper disease control

3. Supplement Vitamin D₃
Use quality premixes

Provide sunlight exposure for backyard flocks
