The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Yobe State Chapter, under the leadership of its Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Jalo Muhammad, FCVSN, paid a courtesy and appreciation visit on Tuesday to the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Alhaji Ali Mustapha Goniri.
The Association expressed profound gratitude for the recent posting of Dr. Zarah A. Yusuf, FCVSN, to the Ministry as Director of Planning, Research and Statistics (DPRS). Speaking on behalf of the veterinary profession in the state, the Chairman described the appointment as well-deserved, timely, and a significant honour to the profession. He noted that it reflects recognition of competence, experience, and dedication, and expressed confidence that Dr. Zarah will apply her expertise to advance the Ministryโs mandate.
Dr. Jalo also commended the Honourable Commissioner for his strong commitment to agricultural development in Yobe State. He observed that the stateโs agricultural transformation and investments continue to attract national attention and serve as a model beyond its borders. The Chairman highlighted the positive impact of these interventions on livelihoods, food security, and economic empowerment, and appreciated the Commissionerโs leadership and vision in strengthening the sector.
In response, Hon. Alhaji Ali Mustapha Goniri thanked the Association for the visit, describing it as a homecoming, an honour, and a clear demonstration of professional solidarity. He particularly valued NVMAโs firm support for the newly posted Director.
Reflecting on the professionโs heritage dating back to 1988, the Commissioner described veterinary medicine as a rigorous and highly disciplined field whose practitioners are trained to protect animal health, safeguard livelihoods, and contribute to public health and food security. He urged members of the Association to uphold the dignity and integrity of the profession and to continue supporting the developmental agenda of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN.
The visit underscored the strong partnership between the veterinary profession and the agricultural sector, and reaffirmed NVMA Yobeโs commitment to professional excellence, constructive collaboration, and the progress of Yobe State.
