Please like and follow my page Colobus poultry farm for more update Raising broilers requires careful planning,
attention to detail, and a commitment to providing proper care and management. Here are some steps to help you get started:

1. *Housing*: Provide a clean, dry, and well-ventilated housing system. You can use a brooder or a grow-out pen, depending on the age and size of your birds.

2. *Feed and Water*: Offer a high-quality starter feed and fresh water at all times. Broilers need a balanced diet rich in protein and energy to grow rapidly.

3. *Health Management*: Implement a health program that includes vaccination, parasite control, and regular monitoring for diseases.

4. *Temperature Management*: Maintain an optimal temperature range (90-90-80°F) during the brooding phase (0-3 weeks).

5. *Space and Ventilation*: Ensure adequate space (about 1 sq ft/bird) and ventilation to prevent stress and health issues.

6. *Monitoring and Record Keeping*: Regularly monitor your birds' growth, feed consumption, and health. Keep accurate records to track progress and make informed decisions.

7. *Processing*: Humanely process your broilers at the appropriate weight (around 2.4-2.8 kg) to ensure quality meat production.

Remember to follow proper biosecurity measures and regulations in your area. It's also essential to consult with a veterinarian or poultry expert to get specific guidance tailored to your farm's needs. Good luck with your broiler farming endeavors!

Nigeria's hot and humid climate requires broiler breeds that are heat-tolerant and disease-resistant. Here are some popular and well-performing broiler breeds in Nigeria:

1. *Cobb 500*: A popular choice for its fast growth rate, high meat yield, and adaptability to hot climates.
2. *Ross 308*: Known for its excellent growth rate, feed efficiency, and robust health.
3. *Arbor Acres*: A versatile breed that thrives in various environments, with good growth rates and meat quality.
4. *Marshall Broiler*: A heat-tolerant breed with a fast growth rate and good meat yield.
5. *Sasso*: A French breed that performs well in tropical climates, with a focus on slow and steady growth for better meat quality.
6. *Kadaknath*: An Indian breed that is gaining popularity in Nigeria for its high meat yield, disease resistance, and adaptability to local conditions.

These breeds are widely available in Nigeria and offer a good balance of growth rate, meat quality, and climate adaptability. However, it's essential to consult with local poultry experts, veterinarians, or suppliers to determine the best breed for your specific needs and farm conditions.

HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM BROILER FARMING ON A WEEKLY BASIS.

Please try and follow my page Colobus poultry farm for more update

Broilers are only raised for meat production and they are the fastest meat producing birds which you can raise within the shortest period of time.

Their males can weight between 2.4-2.8kg in 6weeks after consuming a feed of between 5-5.3 kg of feed per bird.
Why the female broilers can only weigh between 2-2.3kg in 6weeks after eating 4-4.2kg Of feeds. So if you wondering why the weights of your birds are not uniform they are not uniform because your birds are combination of males and females they don’t consume the same amount of feed and won’t weigh the same kg.

In most cartons of day old chicks you buy, the females are usually more than the males in the cartons.

Another thing is female broilers can also start laying small small eggs after 4months of maturity but the eggs layed can’t be sold off to people because of how small the eggs are.

The easy way for farmers to make money weekly in Broiler farming is that they should try to have different batches of birds on their farms, that is if they have enough space on their farm they should separate their spaces or pen into 4 or more compartment so as to have more
batches of broilers which they can easily sell off weekly.

If you only have a batch of broiler you raise on your farm that means you can only raise 6batches of broilers in a year. Because if you raise your birds for 6weeks, after selling off you will need your pen to rest for another 2weeks before you can start raising another set of broilers. In essence you will need 2month to raise a set of broilers and that means you can only raise broilers 6times a year. But you can increase how many batches you raise per year if you can raise 2or 3 batches of birds on your farm.

WAYS TO IDENTIFY UNHEALTHY BIRDS AND ISOLATE THEM. 🐓

Most diseases in birds are infectious or contagious,so we must be observant and proactive in identifying certain signs and symptoms of a diseased bird and furthermore, isolate them before it gets to a critical situation.

🎗️. LOOK INTO THE EYES.
Look into the eyes of your chickens. Healthy chickens generally have aware, bright and clear eyes.
Sleepy or cloudy eyes could be a sign of illness (this is known as conjunctivitis or pink eye infection).

🎗️. CHECK THE VENT.
Healthy chickens generally have well-placed and regular looking vent. But it could be a sign of pr*****ed vent or your chicken could be egg bound if your chicken has a protruding vent.

🎗️. EXAMINE THE EXCREMENT.
You should also examine the droppings of your chickens on a regular basis. Examining it regularly also help to identify sick chicken.
Your chicken could be seriously ill if it has blood in it’s excrement. This is a common sign of coccidia which is a contagious disease and can be deadly in young chicks.

🎗️. INSPECT THE COMB AND WATTLE.
Inspect the comb and wattle of your chickens regularly. Healthy chickens generally have bright red comb and wattle. But if you notice any change in color (such as pale), then it could be a symptom of sickness.
Note;
If you have snow in your country, then a pale comb or wattle can indicate frost bite.
Also you can see a cream colored wattle or comb in the young pullets, because younger ones don’t develop bright combs or wattles until they are fully matured.

🎗️. LOOK THROUGH THE FEATHERS.
Feathers of the chicken is an excellent area for external parasites. So, you should regularly look for lice or mites on the skin and feathers of your birds.
These bugs are generally very small but they can cause your bird to become very weak and agitated.

🎗️. LOOK AT THE LEGS.
You can also identify sick chicken by looking at it’s legs. Healthy chickens generally have clear and well-shaped legs.
Raised scales can indicate scaly-leg mites. If any of your bird has a black scab on the bottom of it’s foot, this is known as bumble foot infection.

🎗️. BODY SHAPE.
Look at the body shape of your chickens. Your chicken is probably sick if you notice your chicken’s wings and tail are stepped down.
Generally healthy chickens have perked up steady body. A puffed up chicken could also be a symptom (although chickens generally do this in the cold weather).

🎗️. MONITOR THE CROP AND BREATHING.
The crop of the chicken is located below the beak, in the middle of it’s front body. Examine the crop and breathing of your chickens.
Your chickens are either ill or have something stuck in their crop if your bird is sneezing or wheezing.
Crop of the healthy chickens generally should not be engorged, hard or squishy. Generally a full crop is normal, because it’s the way of digesting food.

Inspecting your birds regularly can help you see signs and see them in time.
immediately isolate bird and consult a professional so situation doesn't escalate.

Coccidiosis and Treatment

Coccidiosis is caused by protozoan parasites in the genus Eimeria. These parasites occupy a specific segment of the intestinal tract.

coccidial infection causes parasitic enteritis in multiple parts of the intestinal tract, leading to poor performance, diarrhea, and mortality in severe cases.

Clinical signs
birds may appear depressed with ruffled feathers. Diarrhea and dehydration may be present. Blood and/or clear to bright orange mucus may be present in the f***s. Affected birds may appear pale in comparison to unaffected birds. Body weight and feed conversion may also be affected in heavy infections with more pathogenic strains of coccidia

Transmission
Coccidia is transmitted via oral ingestion of contaminated f***s. Following ingestion, the parasite undergoes its complex life cycle within the intestinal tract, during which it replicates and ruptures the intestinal cells. The infected animal then sheds oocysts in the f***s. After a few intestinal cycles of the parasite, birds can develop long-lasting, but species-specific, protective immunity.

Diagnosis
Gross lesions are typically sufficient to diagnose coccidiosis. If necessary, a mucosal scrape can be taken for microscopic examination. Oocysts are easily seen under the light microscope.

Prevention

There are two common techniques to prevent coccidiosis: vaccination and preventive medication

Treatment
Treatment is reserved for when prevention has failed. Amprolium is one of the more popular drugs for the treatment of coccidiosis. Sulfonamides, such as sulfadimethoxine, can be administered in the drinking water for treatment under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR CHICKENS GROW BIG ENOUGH FOR SALES

Every poultry farmer knows that Buyers want BIG chickens.

If you are rearing chickens , you should be working towards getting them ready by 6 weeks

But then, how big should your chicken be to attract customers?

What size does the Chicken buyer actually want?

Let me attempt answers to these.

The buyer wants big chicken.

But then, the Nigerian poultry market does not have a uniform standard for dividing chicken into big and small sizes. There are customers who consider 3.5kg chicken as big while there are others who consider any chicken less than 5kg as small.

The size of chicken considered as “BIG” therefore depends on your type of customers.

Now, most buyers of live chicken are sensory based buyers. They gauge size by what their eyes see and what their hands feel. They do not usually rely on any weighing scale for measurement.

It is therefore important that your birds are both big to the eyes and heavy to the hands. Big birds that do not have weight will not sell.

From my personal experience, I categorize buyers into regular and premium customers.

The regular customer buys chicken weighing between 3kg to 4.5kg. With the right care, these Broilers should be between 6 weeks to 10 weeks of age.

The premium customer however buys Broilers weighing above 5kg and aged 12 weeks above.

Now, if you have chickens on ground, you should by their age, already know the type of customers you are targeting. Is it regular or premium?

No matter your target customers, it is important your birds add weight quickly so that you can meet up with the deadline .

I will briefly itemize a few things you should do to achieve the desired weight gain quickly.

1. Buy and use only high quality feeds.
This is not the time to economize on feed cost. We are battling against time and against growth. Low quality feed take a longer time to give result. Since we don’t have all the time, I advice you use the highest quality feed you can find.

2. Feed your birds ad libitum.
By this I mean you should stop measuring feed for your Broilers. Give them as much as they can eat. The more they eat, the more weight they gain.

3. Don’t waste your nights.
Give your birds light in the night so that they can eat for a few more hours everyday. At the minimum, your birds should have constant light at night for the first 4 weeks of their life.

4. Give vitamins in their water.
Vitamins are necessary to complement the feed and increase appetite. Make sure they have it in their water as required.

5. Keep their pen clean.
Dirty environment reduces appetite and supports the spread of diseases. You do not want your birds falling sick at this critical time.

6. Give all necessary vaccines and medication.

7. As the birds begin to grow, sort them into different groups according to size. The big birds should be separated from the smaller ones so that each has access to food and water without bullying.

I do hope these tips help you meet up with sales.
