🌍🐾 World Zoonoses Day 2025 🧬👩🏽‍⚕️

Today, we shine a light on the invisible thread that connects human and animal health. Zoonotic diseases—like rabies, avian flu, and COVID-19—can jump between animals and humans, reminding us that our health is deeply intertwined with the natural world.

🦠 Zoonoses = Diseases that pass between animals and humans
🐕🐄🐒 ➡️ 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 and vice versa.

🔍 Why it matters:

• 60% of emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic
• Prevention starts with awareness, hygiene, and responsible animal care
• One Health = One Future 🌱

The last stop was at the Ministry of Health where we were warmly received by the Commisioner for Health Prof. Akin Abayomi and his team of environmental health specialists .How both sectors (veterinary and human health) can collaborate to combat the scourge of AMR, proactively preempt zoonosis and better protect public health was at the front burner of the discussion. Prof. Abayomi stated that he was most pleased by the visit and he thoroughly look forward to stronger ties, cooperation and data/knowledge sharing between the two sectors as it concerns to public health.
