We have been busy in the last weeks. After standing quarantine and testing our second OKB lot within two weeks has left for new adventures in Zimbabwe ! All the very best !

The Macintosh team finishes its work — 35 people. Steve Jobs has them all sign a page, then engraves those signatures inside the case.

We let ourselves be inspired by Steve Jobs. Our team is the reason why OKABRA delivers. Every OKABRA catalogue carries the signatures of everyone behind it. It is a testament to the long hours of work in the kraal in scorching sun or freezing cold. The late evenings. Working until every last animal has left the manga. The chanting of the branding numbers so that no mistake happens. The long hours of data entries. The cross-checked weights and double scores to make sure it is right. All carried out with unwavering spirit and team work. Everyone working towards the same goal. To deliver mastery.

To measure is to know. To know properly, you care about what nobody sees.

New Age Farming.
"Checking cattle, lick and water" now means standing at the manga, loading cattle for auction, phone in hand, coordinating the team to offload new fencing material at the same time.

Checking cattle, lick and water used to be the job. Now it's just muscle memory — the team's got it on autopilot while you're juggling three things at once through a phone screen.

Multitasking: it's not a skill, it's just farming now. 😂

From the day a calf hits the ground to the day it is sold - here is what we measure and submit on our animals and our herd:

This is our entire herd - every season - consistently - rain or drought - no exceptions.

- Birth weight (within 24 hours of birth) and corresponding cow weight
- Calving Ease
- Udder score and body condition of cow

- 200 day - W1 Weaning weight (pre weaning weight)
- 200 day - W2 Weaning weight
- Temperament (scored twice)
- Navel and sheath (scored twice)
- Mature cow weight and hip height of cow

- 400 day weight
- 600 day weight
- Scrotal circumference (bulls only)
- Hip height
- Body condition
- Rib fat (Ultra Sound)
- Rump fat (Ultra Sound)
- Intramuscular fat (Ultra Sound)

- Days to calving - Mating data on every mating
- Bulls to be sold: Semen testing and analysis of mass motility as well as morphology.

Additionally we take genotypes and do DNA parentage verification on vast parts of our herd. For Simmentaler all animals are DNA-verified.
