Amigos de Animales We rescue stray, sick and abused animals and find them homes. We organise spay and neuter clinics. Rat poison was the way they used to control strays population.

in 2013 Stasya Briggs and Mike Heiner bought and rebuilt a beautiful bed and breakfast in Barra de Potosi, Gro, Mexico, - Hacienda la Rusa and a few months later Stasya witnessed stray dogs dying from poison. Village after village , Stasya went to talk to people and authorities and promised she would take care of the problem a humane way . She started to catch dogs and cats and drive them every d

ay to the SPAZ and local vet to spay or neuter. This is how an animal welfare project Amigos de Animales has started . Hard work of the founder and the group of amazing volunteers have resulted in numerous Mass Spay and Neuter clinics , 7000 + animals sterilized and hundreds rescued , fostered and adopted. what Amigos de Animales do :

* we pick up dogs & cats, take them to a local vet , pay for sterilization, return them back home or street

* we organize and pay for low cost or free mass spay and neuter programs and clinic

* we rescue, foster, treat, feed and vaccinate stray, hurt, abandoned animals

* we take animals we cant save to be euthanized and we stand by their side, providing last comfort

* we look for ways to transport animals up north where they have better chances to find a loving home

92°F and 72% humidity will NOT stop Amigos from our mission!!! 🔥🐾

Two full days of another mass spay and neuter clinic madness… and 150 precious souls will now live healthier and happier lives ❤️

And this is our THIRD clinic this year.
So far three clinics in 2026 - February, March, May and next one - June !

Crazy? Heck yes. 😎

But we are crazy about saving lives on a BIG scale. Since the day we started 13 years ago, we have helped literally THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of animals. Exhausted, sweaty, running on caffeine and chaos… but always moving forward. 💪🐶🐱

Huge shoutout to my second-in-command, Gris — my ride-or-die warrior !

🌸 Happy Mother’s Day to every mama out there — and today, especially to our volunteer mama Carlos 🌸

5 years ago, I told my team at Amigos de Animales that we could no longer take in any more newborn babies.

It was me, night after night, sleepless, tired, cranky, bottle-feeding and cleaning tiny little bottoms of never-ending abandoned litters for nearly 8 years… and I simply could not do it anymore. Any of you moms — of humans or furries — know exactly what I was going through year after year. I was throwing up tired, and honestly didn’t know what would happen next. I knew people would continue abandoning newborn puppies and kittens at our doorstep… but I also knew I desperately needed consistently relatively normal sleep.

And then… drum roll… 🥁🥁🥁

Carlos stepped in like a true guardian angel and became mama - caretaker for all our newborns . 💖

I taught him everything I knew, and little by little he learned all my tricks acquired through years of rescue work — rubbing tiny bellies, stimulating little bottoms, the perfect feeding consistency, all those little survival tricks we adapt to help fur babies grow healthy and strong.

At Amigos, we truly do not have the resources or the capacity to take in more animals. Sanctuary, with its 100+ kitties and a dozen of dogs , is not accepting new rescues, while we concentrate on our main mission - mass spay & neuter clinics and education. But…. life keeps finding its way to our doorstep… tiny paws and all.

Carlos is a volunteer. After we lost the house with the territory , we were renting for volunteers and dogs, and had to shut down our volunteer program, only a few of dedicated souls stayed by our side… and Carlos is one of them.

And today, once again, here we are — raising another little sweetheart who yesterday opened her beautiful eyes ! 🐾

A heartfelt thank you to every donor, who has supported us through all these years!!

A couple of months ago, 5 tiny puppies were abandoned at our gate. Again. 💔

We run mass spay & neuter clinics every other month, yet this still happens. For some, it’s easier to dump puppies than take responsibility. When will that change ?!

The good news: we have found homes locally for 4 of these babies ! Yay ! 🙏 But one sweet little girl is still waiting…

She’s pure joy, full of love, and ready to give her whole heart to someone special. 🐾

Because of YOU , Amigos Family , 44 dogs and cats were sterilized at Amigos clinic over the weekend and hundreds will never know what it means to suffer alone. 🐾

They won’t be born into hunger, fear, or pain. They won’t be left on the streets, forgotten, abused, or fighting just to survive another day… because YOU chose to care !!!

Every dollar you give, every prayer you whisper, every bit of love you send… it all becomes something real. It becomes safety. It becomes hope. It becomes life.

Two years ago, we , Amigos de Animales , have been asked to vacate the property where we kept our adoptable dogs. Thanks to Zoe , our head volunteer at that time , fosters were found for most.
We had to squeeze into on a small rental property , where Gris lives and we care for our precious un- adoptables - seniors and disabled dogs, and 100+ cats.

Unfortunately, More sweet little babies keep getting dumped. A box with a litter of precious souls was left by the shelter a few days ago .

Keep us in your thoughts— and of course , These little ones are available for adoption !

How was your weekend?!

Amigos weekend was the kind that leaves you exhausted, dirty, emotional… and incredibly proud.
Amigos had another mass spay & neuter clinic, and 150 animals—kitties and pups—were sterilized this weekend. One hundred and fifty lives changed. One hundred and fifty futures protected. 🐾💙

Let’s be very clear:
Mass spay and neuter, paired with animal welfare education, is the ONLY real way to stop overpopulation—and the cruelty and neglect that follow. There is no shortcut. There is no magic wand. This is the work.

And Amigos has been doing it since 2013.
Yes—13 long, bone-crushing, mind-blowing years of showing up, lifting heavy things (emotionally and literally), and refusing to pause. We don’t quit. We don’t rest on “good enough.” We keep going because the animals can’t wait.

This clinic happened because of extraordinary humans.

Endless gratitude to our amazing veterinarian Dra.
