On Thursday April 3 around 3pm, an SUV hit a six-week-old puppy near supermarket Popo in Trou aux Biches, running over a hind leg with two wheels and breaking it in two places. The puppy was screaming in pain, but the driver did not stop, leaving her in the road.
Seeing this occur, I blocked the road with my car and began stabilizing the puppy while she cried, and then taking her to Pet Concern. Dr. Jha – our ‘go-to’ vet on the island. First, he kept the puppy at the clinic a few days until the blood tests indicated she could handle an operation; then he worked miracles with his gold hands during an excellent operation and aftercare. With Dr. Jha, he is available day or night – to act anytime as needed, rather than ‘tomorrow’.
I can only say, thank you Dr. Jha, from the bottom of my heart.
Lucky (her new name) is recovering well and we’ll find a place for her with us at the animal foundation. We know there is a serious problem with excess strays on the island, and not everyone wants to take responsibility. But in the case of Lucky, it was not her fault to be born here, into the population of strays. Now she is our miracle dog with a beautiful soul, aided by the highly-respected and caring Dr. Jha!
