A new opportunity has opened at our veterinary clinic! We’re looking for a friendly, organised, and animal-loving person to join our reception team on a full-time basis.

Main duties include:

- Greeting clients and their pets with a warm and professional attitude

- Booking appointments and managing the schedule

- Selling pet food and over-the-counter treatments

- Preparing and handling invoices and payments

- Keeping the reception area clean, tidy, and welcoming

Previous experience in a similar role will be considered an asset, but a genuine love for animals and great communication skills are a must!

For weeks, Jiro visited our clinic every single day for his treatment. He was undergoing a course of Glucantime for Leishmania, a medication commonly used to help control this parasitic disease and improve patients’ quality of life.

Some days were harder than others, but he always faced them with courage, patience, and a wagging tail.

After every visit, he earned his favorite treat and reminded us what true resilience looks like. 🦴✨

Meet Benji 🐾

When Benji arrived, he had a chest mass the size of a mango. Before considering surgery, advanced CT imaging was essential to determine if the tumor had spread or was invading vital structures.

The scan revealed a locally invasive soft tissue sarcoma affecting the chest wall, but thankfully no evidence of lung metastasis. With careful planning, our surgical and anesthesia teams performed a complex procedure, removing the tumor with wide margins along with portions of three affected ribs. A surgical mesh was then placed to help protect the chest cavity and support recovery.

The biopsy confirmed a Grade I Soft Tissue Sarcoma, a tumor with low metastatic potential and an excellent prognosis when completely removed.

Today, Benji is back home, enjoying life with his family ❤️

This case is a reminder of how advanced diagnostic imaging, skilled surgery, and dedicated postoperative care can make a life-changing difference for our patients.

Myles' Story: The Importance of Early Detection and Monitoring 🐶

Myles was diagnosed with a ureteral stone several months after starting treatment with Allopurinol for sandfly disease. While this is an uncommon complication, it is a known risk, which is why regular monitoring is so important during treatment.

Fortunately, Myles's owner is extremely dedicated and would bring him for regular check-ups, blood tests, and urine monitoring throughout his treatment. During a follow-up ultrasound, abnormalities were detected in his right kidney and ureter (the structure that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder). The ultrasound revealed dilation of the kidney and ureter, as well as a 5 mm ureteral stone causing an obstruction.

Myles underwent emergency surgery to remove the stone successfully from his ureter. Following surgery, his treatment protocol was adjusted and he continued with close monitoring. We are happy to report that just 7 days later, both his right kidney and ureter had returned to normal.

This case highlights why testing for sandfly-borne diseases and starting treatment early is so important, but also why ongoing monitoring cannot be overlooked. Regular follow-up examinations allow us to identify potential complications quickly and act before they become more serious.

We are very grateful to Myles' owner for being so committed to his health and wellbeing. 💚

At Pets and Vets Veterinary Clinic, we are always looking for ways to improve our service for pets on chronic or long-term medications. To help us prepare your pet’s medications on time, we kindly ask that all refill requests be submitted through our new form 7–10 days before the medication is needed.

🐾 Clinical Case: 🌾🌾

Douglas came into our clinic with persistent sneezing and discomfort. After a thorough examination, we discovered the cause: a foxtail grass seed lodged deep inside his nasal passage 🌾

Foxtail seeds are especially common during this season and can easily attach to your pet’s fur. Due to their shape, they can migrate into delicate areas such as:
👃 Nose
👂 Ears
🐾 Between the toes
👁️ Eyes

In Douglas’ case, the seed had traveled too far inside the nose to be safely removed with basic tools. We used our endoscope, which allows us to see inside the nasal cavity and remove foreign objects in a precise and minimally invasive way. The procedure was successful, and Douglas is now breathing comfortably again 💙

⚠️ Pet owner tip:
During this time of year, always check your pets after walks, especially if they’ve been around dry grass. Watch for signs like excessive sneezing, head shaking, or sudden discomfort.

Early intervention is key to preventing serious complications.
