Tank setup:
Large tank with soft substrate, driftwood, hiding spots, and secure lid. They can breathe air and may escape from open tanks. Low to moderate flow recommended.
Tank mates:
Large bichirs, big catfish, large cichlids
Avoid small fish — they will be eaten.
Diet:
Carnivorous — eats shrimp, worms, fish fillets, mussels, pellets, and other meaty foods.
Special notes:
Can breathe atmospheric air using lungs
Can survive droughts by burrowing into mud
Very strong and messy fish
Needs a very large aquarium as an adult
Can bite, so handle carefully
