We were privileged to host an insightful and inspiring guest lecture on “Wildlife Protection Laws in Sri Lanka,” conducted as part of the Animal Welfare and Legislations course.

The session was co-organized by the Department of Animal Science and the Animal Welfare Society, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, featuring Dr. Jagath Gunawardana, a highly respected environmental lawyer and conservationist.

Dr. Gunawardana’s wealth of experience and deep understanding of Sri Lanka’s legal landscape offered students a valuable opportunity to explore the intersection between law, animal welfare, and conservation.

“Understanding the laws that protect our wildlife is essential for students in the field of animal science. This lecture offered an important opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world conservation efforts.” added Dr. Shishanthi Jayarathna, Course Coordinator

Dog Vaccination Program🐕💉

Together with World Rabies Day— a reminder that rabies is deadly but 100% preventable — we carried out sterilization of the dogs in our faculty premises, followed by a rabies vaccination program to ensure the safety of both animals and people❤️🐕💉
