🚨 Rainy Season & Flood Preparedness for Animal Owners 🚨

The Department of Agriculture is urging all livestock and pet owners—especially those in low-lying or flood-prone areas—to take immediate steps to protect their animals.

🐄🌧️ Key Precautions:

Relocate animals to higher ground to avoid rising water.

Provide well-drained, covered shelters and dry bedding to prevent illness.

Secure escape routes for animals in case of sudden flooding.

Keep animals clear of electrical lines and wires.

Ensure containers and feed supplies are properly secured to prevent contamination.

📢 REMEMBER: Failing to move animals from hazardous areas—resulting in unnecessary suffering—is considered animal cruelty and is a criminal offense under the Cayman Islands Animals Act (2024 Revision).

This is a great reminder to keep your pets on Heartgard!

With the start of hurricane season, it's started raining. What does that mean here? MOSQUITOES. For us, a little irritation. For our dogs, the potential to contract heartworm, a parasite spread by larvae passed on by mosquitoes which thrives in dogs. Many of the dogs on our islands suffer from heartworm. Just one preventative tablet each month can stop your dog getting it. Nothing else prevents it. If you are getting bitten, your dog is getting bitten. If not treated once the dog has it, it will end up killing your dog - sometimes it may take a while, but it will be painful. One missed tablet can give the larvae a way in and they will grow and develop in your dog's heart and around the lungs. Please make sure you are maintaining your dog's preventative medicine year round.

The Department of Agriculture’s Animal Welfare and Control Unit has rescued a small dog found wandering along a dangerous intersection over the weekend.

If you believe this is your pet, please visit the DOA Animal Pound on 135 Agricola Drive, Lower Valley, during visiting hours: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM or 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM to reclaim your dog.

Do you have used and unwanted yoga mats? Please donate them to the Cayman Islands Humane Society. Thank you some senior pups 🐶 would really benefit from them :)

If you have any used yoga mat(s), please consider donating to the shelter. One of our dogs, who is in a foster home, is having trouble walking on tile floors. The yoga mats would provide padding and traction.
