Nabiya was founded in 2007. "Nabi" means "butterfly" in Korean, and is a name that people in Korea give a cat they don't know or see on the streets. Nabiya is located Yongsan, Seoul, Korea, where rescued or abandoned cats are being fostered, till

they find a PERMANENT loving home. Nabiya is a non government organization that relies purely on donation money to keep our shelter running. We are trying to give our cats the best care we can while teaching people that animals also have their rights and that we as humans should try to always make our best to respect them. We are also in need of volunteers who can help clean the shelter, take care of the cats, and get them ready for adoption. We are also looking for people that can help us coordinate adoptions. For information regarding volunteer work, foster or adoption inquires, please contact us at [email protected]

In April 2022, "Lezo" was found in a small factory in Hyoja-dong.
No word could explain the facial wound of this kitty that was barely three months old. This wound was so horrible that it made Lezo seem like her face was cut out in half starting from right below her eyes.
She has gone through numerous major operations and survived, but her face has not fully regenerated even until today, which marks almost two years since she was rescued. Therefore Lezo is under constant danger of infection and thus regularly going to hospital.
Maybe it is because of the everlasting facial wound that she has been enduring for such a long time...... Lezo is having a hard time making other cat friends and only lets humans who give their complete attention come close to her.
It breakes our hearts when we look at Lezo's face, which has never healed despite the numerous medical treatments that she has gone through over multiple years. Perhaps this time we could finally recover her wounds... With such a thought of hope, we keep looking for other hospitals.
We really wish to find Lezo her one and only face.

Despite our desperate wishes, we constantly encounter horrendous circumstances created by human greed.

On Thursday April 11, Nabiya rescued 28 cats from an illegal breeder in Namyangju.

After 10 years of illegally breeding cats and making money from it, the operator finally agreed to give up ownership of the cats, due to his age and incapability of maintaining the breeding site.
These cats were merely commodities and their purpose of existing was solely to make money, and there was no such thing as a moral responsibility imposed neither on the seller nor on the buyers.

Moreover, we have a question to the buyers who considered the cats displayed in glass cases mere commodities. Does it not occur to you that such purchases are morally wrong, or are you simply ignoring the fact that these cats are being bought and sold under morally bankrupt circumstances? There is supply for these cats because there are people who demand them.

A total of 28 cats, including 23 adult cats, 1 one-month-old, and 4 cats less than a week old, have been hospitalized and received medical treatment.

Just like all the other breeding sites Nabiya has encountered, this one was also horrendous. Perhaps it was worse than any other breeding sites we had seen. The cats’ bodies under their long fur were incredibly skeletal and covered in excrements caused by diarrhea.

They all were malnourished and had skin, respiratory, and digestive diseases. They are now in the process of a thorough medical examination in order to find out if there are other ailments present. Just like all the other cats Nabiya had rescued from illegal breeding sites, these cats seemed to have big and small health problems commonly witnessed on artificially bred cats.

One of the mother cats had one eye bursted and was in need of an emergency operation. Even when she herself was in pain, the mother cat took care of her kitty that managed to survive an environment so horrendous that one could not even guarantee if a young kitty could survive to tomorrow.

The natural light that is so trivial to us scared these cats and thus they kept crawling into corners.
Although there were warm blankets in the hospital, the cats, heartbreakingly, remained hiding in the litter boxes, as if those boxes were the most comfortable places for them.

It is unimaginable how difficult these cats’ lives must have been.

It might take a while, but we hope that these cats become comfortable enough to accept love from humans.

Nabiya will do its best until these cats are healed, both mentally and physically, and find a forever family that will provide them with infinite love.

With your support, we will always take care of these cats.

Please support us helping these cats get medical treatment and find a family that can provide them with a warm and healthy life full of love

Hyobong was found in February at a feeding site created for abandoned cats, located at the top of Bukhansan. Among the numerous stray cats that came for food, Hyobong was the one that caught our eyes. He stood out even more because of the stain of the pus that oozed out from his ear on his white fur.

After we got a rescue request from an informer, we rescued and took Hyobong to the hospital, and we prayed that his illness was a simple bleeding and that he seemed especially sick because of his white fur.

There are so many cats with big and small injuries. Many of them are abandoned and abused by humans.
Moreover, there are countless cats that are out of people’s attention and do not even know why they are in so much pain. Hyobong was one of them.

The small cancer that started in Hyobong’s ears has spread throughout all parts of his body. It has been over 4 months since we tried to figure out which medical treatment to provide. Every day we wiped off the blood clot and carried out dressing, but his ears kept oozing out pus. On the day of the hospital visit, we asked the usual question.

“Would Hyobong be in so much pain?”

Fortunately, Hyobong was able to express what he felt. When he was in pain, he became angry and hissed, telling us not to come near him. Above all, he was able to eat moist feed, which he loved, by himself.

Upon opening the door of the special care room, we encountered Hyobong’s big hiss. Then we asked the kid, "Are you doing well?”, “How are you feeling?”

Even though the day might come when we must make a heartbreaking decision, Nabiya will always be with Hyobong as long as Hyobong responds to us.

Today, Hyobong is doing his best, like always.

Support our work of rescuing cats, providing medical treatment, and finding forever families for all of our shelter cats.

Hello! Nabiya has recently started on a new chapter and our 3 shelters have combined into 1. The cats have a bigger place to run around, more staff support and renovated facilities. However with this merger, management and operations have changed internally to streamline all of Nabiya’s processes.

We revamped our website www.Nabiya.org this year and all applications and donation info can be found there. Application response time may take longer than usual. If you would like to inquire about your application or have questions, please reach out to .2007 on Instagram or reach out directly to the main email [email protected] instead.

We would also like to thank everyone for the love and support for Nabiya’s volunteer-run English accounts for the past 8 years. We are sad to announce that all lines of foreign communication support for Facebook, Instagram and Gmail will be discontinued indefinitely. Messages or comments may not be responded to, so we kindly ask that inquiries are made to the accounts noted above.

Moving forward we highly recommend applying or inquiring in Korean to expedite the process since English communication will be available on a limited basis.

Thank you
