A Happy Ending: A Dangerous Toy Squeaker

A young American Staffordshire Terrier came to our clinic because he wasn’t eating well and had been vomiting repeatedly for several days. His family was very worried because his condition was getting worse.

Diagnosis
During the examination, he showed clear signs of stomach pain and mild dehydration.
We started with X-rays, which revealed something unusual in his intestines.
To get a better look, we performed a contrast study, which confirmed a blockage caused by a foreign object.

Surgery
We decided to perform exploratory surgery right away.
During the procedure, we discovered the cause — a squeaker from a dog toy that was completely blocking his intestines.
The squeaker was carefully removed, and we checked the intestinal tissue to ensure there was no damage before closing the incision.

Recovery
After surgery, he received IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain relief while staying in the hospital.
Thankfully, he recovered quickly and was soon back to eating, playing, and being his energetic self.
At his follow-up check, he was completely back to normal and healthy.
