Ocular Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC)

This is a common eye tumor in cattle, often referred to as “Cancer Eye.” It appears as a raised whitish or pink growth on the conjunctiva or around the eyelids and can gradually enlarge if not treated early.

This condition is mainly associated with prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) sunlight, lack of pigmentation around the eyes, and genetic susceptibility. It is more common in cattle with light-colored faces or unpigmented eyelids.

Early detection is very important. Small lesions can be treated through surgical removal, cryotherapy, or cauterization. However, advanced cases may require removal of the affected eye to prevent the spread of the tumor.
Farmers are encouraged to monitor their animals regularly and seek veterinary attention early whenever abnormal growths appear around the eye.

Early diagnosis and intervention can save the animal and prevent economic losses. 🐄👨‍⚕️

When preparing silage, consider:

Use the right crop at correct maturity

Ensure 60–70% moisture content

Chop finely (1–3 cm)

Keep materials clean

Compact tightly to remove air

Seal well to maintain anaerobic conditions

Allow proper fermentation (at least 3 weeks
