A few highlights from recent weeks…

1. A herd of elephant crosses the Mara River below the watchful eyes of our horses.
2. Zawadi & Chacha are unfazed passing through a herd of buffalo herd.
3. A tiny leopard cub found in the crack of a kopje.
4. A cow elephant helps her newly born calf to its feet with the help of the rest of her herd. We then watched her dig and bury the afterbirth so as not to alert predators.
5. Walking with giants.
6. Watching courting lions from horseback.
7. The River Pride devouring an elephant carcass.
8. Walking with even more gigantic giants.
9. The ultimate stealth mode of a leopard slithering towards a herd of impala.
10. End of another sh*tty day in paradise.

Not all first nights are as incredible as this one…

As we rode back into camp with our new group of guests we got word from our spotter, Neti, that he had found some lionesses nearby. We jumped into the cars and headed out to find them and soon enough came across seven cubs expectantly waiting for their mothers to return. Soon enough, a lioness arrived with an impala swinging from her jaws, pursued by another who clearly did not have the intention to be sharing the kill with her sister or babies. We sat glued to the scene as one lioness stood watch over the cubs whilst they devoured her kill and fought off the other lioness when she came too close. A helluva first evening.

Exceptional scene in the third video captured by and the “oh my god” delivered by Jacob Newland.

if you would like to come and see the lions of the Maasai Mara for yourself, please DM us here or email [email protected] for more information, rates & dates.

Blink and you’ll miss it!

This season in the Mara has been punctuated by extraordinary moments like this one…

A serval cat bounding out of the frame whilst our guide and guests look on at a giraffe. Serval cats are strikingly beautiful and, due to their solitary nature and expert camouflage, rare to see.

Saitoti is training under his father, Neti, to be a spotter for our safaris. Not only is he a natural talent at scouting out wildlife but, like his father, he’s a wonderful guide to our guests and is learning much about the joys of horses. The Maasai people have an affinity with cows, having relied upon them for centuries, but horses are a much more recent addition to the Kenyan landscape.
