No one is safe from a potential scorpion sting or snakebite. And people who feed our communities through their farms are exposed, yet they are very organised and curious to learn. In that spirit of collective safety, the ๐—–๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ผ ๐—™๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ invited us to lead an awareness session in the middle of their farmers in Hong Kong. As they work in the bushy environment and always deal with unexpected encounters with venomous species. They learned to identify harmful from harmless venomous species. After the session, a participant said "This session is the most relevant session I ever attended becuase it connects me to my work directly... Thanks for coming and we can't wait to see you back here." We acknowledge the chairman of the group for his commitment to gather farmers for their overall well-being at the farm and at their homes.

Our second and last cleaning activity for April is complete. We were in K4, Z3, B 4. With the collaboration of the block leader, 8 members of that block joined us in the cleaning. The activity ends up with a short talk about keeping the environment clean and sound for good of every community members. As we continue this journey around kakuma 4 for now, we look forward to reaching blocks and areas of concern. Block leaders and youths, kindly join us to make our community clean and safe. Let chass scorpions and snakes with a clean environment, instead of medicine after an unfortunate incident. Anyone who would like to join or support, you are welcome so that we expand to other parts of the camp.
Our mission remains clear, to create and promote a safe and clean environment free from venomous species and disease-carrying insects. Let's save lives, and save limbs.

Yesterday saturday, April 11, we successfully conducted the community cleaning activity in Kakuma 4, Zone 2, Block 2. Our monthly committment is twice, targetting two blocks. This initiative brought together an incredible team committed to creating a clean and safe environment for all in Kakuma. we were honored to be joined by the block leader , along with some dedicated community members. In total 12 volunteers from our team and the block's inhabitants who gave their time and energy to promote health, safety, and environmental resosibility within our community.
This acctivity is part of our ongoing effort to build awareness and encourage sustainable cleanliness practices across all the blocks. Guess what? We are coming to your block soon, and get ready to participate, take ownership, and continue these important habits even when we leave:
- safely dispose of unused items such plastics, old clothes, worn-out mattresses, and discared synthetic hair. Burn them, avoid dumping them in open spaces or streets. When imporperly disposed, these items become hiding and breeding grounds for dangerous pests such as scorpions, snakes, spiders, spiders, centepedes as well as diseases-carrying insects like mosquitoes and flies.
- keep your immediate environment clean in order to reduce the presence of harmful and venomous species. A clean compound protects, not only you but your neighbors too.
- It's important to note that most scorpion stings and snakes bites occur at home, especially during night.
- As we are experiencing a malaria outbreak, it is essential for every household to take preventive measures. Ensure that you, and your family are under mosquito net from 7 pm every night even when you're chatting.
- Do not leave jerricans or any water storage container open. stagnant water creates a breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and may also attract thirsty scorpions and snakes into your home environment.

We are proud to share a major milestone in our journey this year! On March 21, 2026, we successfully hosted our first large-scale eventโ€”bringing together partners, community members, and hundreds of children for a truly impactful day.

The event was built around three key moments:

1. ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—˜๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜: We were honored to welcome our valued partners, whose presence, support, and commitment continue to strengthen our mission and inspire our work on the ground.

2. ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—–๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ป-๐—จ๐—ฝ ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜†: The day began early Saturday morning with a vibrant community clean-up. Volunteers came together with energy and dedication to create a cleaner, safer environmentโ€”demonstrating the power of collective action. Being the launching of this project, we intend to make our community as safe as possible by bringing in people from every part of the camp.

The highlight of the day was a joyful gathering where we hosted over 700 children and 200 invited guests, including community leaders, church representatives, parents, and friends. The event was filled with games, performances, laughter, and meaningful interactionsโ€”creating a safe and happy space where children could learn, express themselves, and feel valued.

This event reflects our shared commitment to community transformation, environmental responsibility, and the well-being of children. We are deeply grateful to our partners for their presence during this event, and to everyone who made this day possible.

Are you a youth living in Kakuma 1, 2, 3, or 4?
Do you want to be part of positive change in your community?

Scorpion Control Center (SCC) is calling on committed and passionate youth to stand up for a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment in your area. SCC works to promote overall community safety by reducing the risks posed by scorpions, snakes, spiders, and centipedes. However, we need your support to help make our community cleaner and safer. But we cannot do it alone.

Starting March 2026, we invite you to join us in voluntary community clean-up and safety activities, conducted twice every month. This is your chance to contribute to protect families, and help create a safer environment for everyone.

Your time, energy, and commitment can save lives and strengthen our community.

Two months ago, 13 out of 15 women received seed grant funding to start or expand small businesses as a response to the food insecurity they have faced since last year. As you may know, residents of Kakuma Refugee Camp are classified into different categories for food assistance. Categories 1 and 2 receive up to 30% food support. Category 3 households receive 530 KES (approximately USD 4.11) per month to meet their basic needs, while those in Category 4 are expected to rely entirely on their own income-generating activities, whether small or large.

This year, we had the opportunity to visit the women who benefited from the seed grants to assess how the funds were used. While some women are actively working to sustain and grow their businesses, others chose to spend the funds shortly after receiving them. Going forward, we will prioritize support and mentorship for those who have demonstrated commitment and consistency.

We sincerely thank our partners for making this initiative possible within an already vulnerable community and for supporting families striving toward self-reliance.
