WARNING: NOT A HAPPY POST
It’s with a heavy heart that we update our supporters and followers with some not-so-great news. A mama cat came into the Kawakuji fold on the last day of April with her 4 little kittens in tow. Immediately we could see these kittens were very small for their age and knew the risk was high. Their foster parent watched over them like a hawk, but nature had other plans.
Three of the kittens passed away shortly after arriving at their foster home, with just one kitten hanging on. It’s believed this could be Mama Tiger’s first litter of kittens due to her small size and young age, and she likely had her first litter very premature. Eenie, Meenie, and Miney passed in the warmth and comfort of a home, surrounded by family and foster parents who loved them. They are survived by their mother, Tiger, and sibling, Mo. They were given a proper sendoff, their ashes interred together at a pet cemetery for volunteers to visit whenever they like.
Animal rescue is not for the faint of heart. We like to keep our feed positive with the feel-good side of finding forever homes and families for the animals in our care, but it’s important to remember why we do what we do and how we get through it together. It would be easy to give up after one tragedy knowing another could come at any time, but our volunteers find the strength to keep helping animals and doing our best to save every life because we know it’s important work and its work worth doing.
That is to say that none of what we do would be possible without the support and kindness we receive from those that follow our work and champion our efforts. Thank you everyone for giving us the strength to pick ourselves up after a hard day and try our best. Thank you from everyone at Kawakuji Animal Rescue ❤️ Rest in Peace Eenie, Meenie, and Miney 💕 🙏
