I wanted to share this video with everyone.... pertaining to dog food that has expired, because of the experience that I've had with this past little we had with Melody and jack.
Nothing was mentioned about this on Facebook because, I have no proof of it, but I'm pretty sure that the reason why our puppies continuously got diarrhea and vomiting was because I had a bad batch of dog food.
Bill and I struggled for about 2 weeks trying to find out what was wrong with these poor puppies.....One day the puppies would have a normal bowel movement and then the next day severe diarrhea. The best part is that it wasn't all of them at the same time. One puppy would get it, get better, and then another puppy would start. The next thing I knew some of them were even vomiting. I was at my wits end, and in tears. We had taken them to the emergency vet because it had gotten so severe. They were checked to see if they had parvo, and also any types of parasites. All of the tests came out negative.
The Emergency Veterinary Clinic actually didn't do much for us and we ended up coming back home with the same problem. We took them to our regular vet the next day to find out if there is anything we could do. He again tested them for parasites abd again, it came out negative.
I kept on taking them off the dog food, and then putting them on probiotics, rice and chicken. They would start to have a normal bowel movement. So I would try to start to introduce the dog food again. As soon as I would introduce it, they would sick again.
We were very worried because they were not gaining any weight. Thank goodness they didn't lose any, but they did not gain either. At the end when they were ready to go home I was debating if I was going to let them even leave. Our vet put them on antibiotics and I'm sure you can just imagine the cost involved for 12 puppies.
I then decided that I was going to stop the dog food completely & with some advice from some of the people that were adopting, I put them on pumpkin and yogurt only!!! That is the only thing that they ate until they went home. Each puppy went home with normal stool and I was thrilled. So my thoughts on this was that my husband and I picked up a batch of Purina Puppy Chow from our local grocery store that had expired and was bad. The poor puppies were dealing with food poisoning.
This is why I'm posting this now. I don't see where they mention what type of dog food this dog had, but I would be very very skeptical on any type of dog food at this point. Make sure that you pay attention to the expiration dates on the dog foods! it's very important. I hope this helped anybody that has had this problem. The sad part about this, is that you can't even trust what you're buying from your grocery stores/ brand dog foods.!!!
