Falling in love with a cat takes about five seconds. Being ready to welcome one home takes a little more planning, and it’s worth every bit of it. 🐱🏡

A few things that often get missed before bringing a cat home in India:
🪟 Net your balconies and windows first. Cats are curious climbers, and falls from apartment balconies are a real risk, even for cats who seem careful.
🩺 Book a vet visit in the first week for a check-up, and to plan vaccinations, deworming and sterilisation.
🐈 Consider an indie or an adult cat. Their personalities are already clear, so it’s easier to find one who fits your home, and they need homes just as much as kittens do.
🤝 Ask the shelter or foster questions. They know if a cat is shy, playful, loves cuddles or prefers a quiet corner.

Get the basics right, and you’ll have a companion for many, many years. 💛

Who decides whether an experiment on an animal is ‘mild’ or ‘severe’? Under India’s new draft Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Control and Supervision of Experiment, Breeding and Trading of Laboratory Animals) Rules, 2026, in many cases, it would be the lab’s own ethics committee (IAEC), not an independent, central approval body.

This October, the government released the draft rules to replace the framework that has governed animal experiments in India since 1998. Some of it is welcome, including a push to replace animals with alternative methods wherever possible and to reduce suffering.

But several changes have raised serious concerns among animal welfare groups and experts. These include fewer experiments reviewed by the central regulator, wider routes for sourcing lab animals, exceptions under which community dogs, cats and wild animals could still be used, and a vagueness in designating responsibility.

Scientific progress matters. So does making sure it doesn’t come at the cost of avoidable suffering.

📩 Send your thoughts and suggestions on the new draft rules to the CCSEA at [email protected] before 5 November 2026.

India’s rules on animal experimentation may soon be rewritten, and many animal welfare organisations claim that there is a serious dilution of protections for animals in the new draft rules. 🐾⚖️

The new draft, issued by the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA), would replace rules that have governed animal labs in India for decades. Supporters say it will make research approvals faster and simpler.

But animal welfare groups, including PETA India, say speed shouldn’t come at the cost of protection. Their concerns include less independent oversight, with more experiments approved by institutions themselves, and exceptions that could allow community dogs, cats and protected wild animals to be used in experiments under certain conditions.

India has spent years moving towards kinder science, from banning animal testing for cosmetics to recognising non-animal research methods in drug trials. These rules will shape what happens next.

If this matters to you, read the draft and share your feedback with the CCSEA before 5 November. And share this post so more people know the window is still open 👇

If you pick up after your dog (and we hope you do 😄), you’re already holding the most honest daily health report your dog will ever give you. But many of us still don’t know how to read it. 💩🔍

A quick look on your walks takes seconds, and over time you’ll learn what’s normal for your dog, which is exactly what helps you spot when something’s off.

Skip the wait-and-see and call your vet if:
🪱 You spot worms, or small white rice-like bits
🧸 You see pieces of toys, fabric or anything they shouldn’t have eaten
😴 Loose p**p comes with vomiting, low energy or refusing food
🐶 It’s a puppy or a senior dog with diarrhoea, since they can dehydrate faster
🩸You notice bloody or coffee-ground p**p

So scoop it, glance at it, and bin it. Your neighbours will thank you, and so will your dog’s tummy. 💛

Be honest: are you a p**p-analyser or a look-away-and-scoop person? 👇

When the crackers start, your dog will probably come looking for you. Your cat will probably disappear. Both are scared; they just show it differently. 🐶🐱🪔

That’s why comfort looks different for each of them.

🐶 For dogs: Let them stay close. If they lean into you, follow you around or climb onto the sofa, let them. Your company is what calms them most.
🐱 For cats: Let them hide. Under the bed or on top of a cupboard is their safe space, so don’t pull them out. Leave food, water and a litter tray nearby, and let them come out when they’re ready.
🐦🐰 For birds and small pets: Bring balcony cages and hutches indoors, cover part of a birdcage with a light cloth (leaving room for air), skip free-flying time on cracker nights, and give rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters extra bedding to burrow into.

And spare a thought for the animals outside too. A bowl of water by your gate and a quiet corner of the parking area can help the community animals in your neighbourhood get through the night. 💛

You can’t turn down the volume on Diwali. But you can help it feel a little quieter for your dog. 🪔🐶

Crackers are louder for dogs than they are for us, and without knowing what the noise is or when it’ll stop, many dogs spend festive nights on edge. The good news is that a few changes at home can bring that stress meter way down:

🏠 A quiet room with their bed, water and a favourite chew
🪟 Curtains drawn and a fan, TV or soft music on to muffle the booms
🤍 You, staying close and calm, because comfort helps
🌿 BLEP SUPER Stress Buster, a non-drowsy calming chew with L-Theanine, L-Tryptophan, Ashwagandha, Magnesium Glycinate, and other calming ingredients to help support their nervous system from within.

So, what do you do to help your dog’s stress meter go down on Diwali every year? Tell us in the comments!
