Those who think factory made cat food, made outside our State is bad for Cats and jyanto machh fresh from the market is good, think twice please.

Catching live fish with nets is very labour intensive. Catching dead fish floating on the water is very easy with a paddle boat rowing across the pool. That's probably the innovative technique being used all over the State.

Let me tell you how they kill the local Fish in ponds so that you get your jyanto machh.

I live beside a fish farm and the internal water bodies of my housing are connected to the fish farm pool outside by an overflow pipe to allow excess rain water to flow out to the fish pools outside. During the heavy rains in the last few days our water bodies started overflowing and so were the pools outside. Instead of water flowing outside, the water from the farm pools came inside.

The result was disastrous for the 100+ fish in our pools. All were dead the next morning. The gardening staff said it's because of certain 'medicines' the farm people had dumped into the pools to 'catch fish'.

I'm not posting this alert because I sell cat food. I don't need to. Cat food has been my best seller through the last 6 years of my business of RKD Pet Shop. I'm posting this because I'm also a cat parent and I care for Cats.

জাল দিয়ে জ্যান্ত মাছ ধরা অত্যন্ত শ্রমসাধ্য কাজ। কিন্তু জলের ওপর ভেসে থাকা মৃত মাছ তুলে নেওয়া খুবই সহজ—প্যাডেল বোটে করে পুকুরের এদিক-ওদিক ঘুরলেই হলো। সম্ভবত গোটা রাজ্যজুড়েই মাছ ধরার এই অভিনব পদ্ধতি ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে!

আপনাদের বলি, কীভাবে পুকুরের স্থানীয় মাছগুলোকে মেরে ফেলা হয়, যাতে আপনারা সেই ‘জ্যান্ত মাছ’ পান।

আমি একটি মাছের খামারের পাশে থাকি। আমাদের হাউজিং কমপ্লেক্সের ভেতরের জলাশয়গুলোর সঙ্গে বাইরের মাছের খামারের পুকুরগুলো একটি ওভারফ্লো পাইপের মাধ্যমে সংযুক্ত। অতিরিক্ত বৃষ্টির জল যাতে বাইরে মাছের পুকুরে চলে যেতে পারে, সেই ব্যবস্থাই করা হয়েছে।

গত কয়েকদিনের প্রবল বৃষ্টিতে আমাদের জলাশয়গুলো যেমন উপচে পড়তে শুরু করে, বাইরের মাছের খামারের পুকুরগুলোও তেমনই উপচে পড়ে। কিন্তু বাইরে জল বেরিয়ে যাওয়ার পরিবর্তে মাছের খামারের পুকুরের জল উল্টো আমাদের জলাশয়ে ঢুকে পড়ে।

পরের দিন সকালে ফলাফল ছিল ভয়াবহ। আমাদের জলাশয়ের ১০০-রও বেশি মাছ—সবগুলোই মরে গিয়েছিল।

বাগানের কর্মীরা জানালেন, মাছ ধরার জন্য খামারের লোকেরা পুকুরে যে ধরনের ‘ওষুধ’ বা রাসায়নিক দিয়েছিল, তার কারণেই নাকি মাছগুলো মারা গেছে।

আমি এই সতর্কবার্তাটি দিচ্ছি এই কারণে নয় যে আমি ক্যাট ফুড বিক্রি করি। তার কোনও প্রয়োজন নেই। RKD Pet Shop-এর গত ৬ বছরের ব্যবসায় ক্যাট ফুড বরং আমার অন্যতম সেরা বিক্রিত পণ্য। আমি এই কথাগুলো বলছি কারণ আমিও একজন ক্যাট পেরেন্ট। আর আমি বিড়ালদের সত্যিই ভালোবাসি এবং তাদের যত্ন নিই।

fans আজকাল বহু বাড়িতেই পোষা কুকুরের Epileptic Seizure হয়, ডাক্তার Gardinal চালু করিয়ে দেন এবং সেটা চলতেই থাকে, চট করে বন্ধ করার উপায় নেই, side effect ও অনেক আছে। কিন্তু ওটাই সবচেয়ে সস্তা। বেশী খরচা করতে পারলে কম সাইড এফেক্টওয়ালা Levepsy বা Levipil ট্যাবলেট দেওয়া হয়, কিন্তু সেটাও সারা জীবন চালাতে হয়, আট ঘন্টা পর পর। Dose মিস করলেই আবার attack হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা। এইভাবে কি সম্ভব?

ছবিতে দেখছেন আমাদের বাড়ির কুকুর 'ছোটোকুকুর কেনি' কে। বাড়ির ছোটো ছেলেকে আদর করে যেমন "অ্যাই ছোটো ছেলে" বলে ডাকা হয়, সেইরকম আর কি। ছোটবেলা থেকেই বাড়ির আর কোনও কুকুর কে সে সহ্য করতে পারেনা, রক্তাক্ত ঝগড়ায় লিপ্ত হয়। তাই একটা কোণার ঘরে সে থাকে পোষা বেড়াল PuchuCat এর সাথে, মিনিটে তিরিশটা করে থাপ্পড় খেয়ে। দিনে দুইবার ঘন্টা দুয়েক করে সারা বাড়িতে ঘুরে বেরোনোর জন্যে ছাড়া পেয়ে খুব শান্তি পায় সে, যখন অন্য কুকুররা তাদের ঘরে বন্ধ থাকে। Levipil চলা সত্ত্বেও যখন seizure হচ্ছিল কয়েক মাস পর পর, তখন আমরা ওর separation anxiety কমানোর রাস্তা খুঁজতে গিয়ে যা ব্যবহার করে সাফল্য পেলাম সেটা আজ পেশ করছি যাতে আপনারাও উপকার পান।

And because Indian dogs have become The National Shame. See my Indian Shepherd Dog, Pupu- died under the wheels of a truck. She lived free in my housing and cared for by me. Note, that I didn't call her a stray dog. She was a free dog!

It is she and many other Indian dogs other than my Late Bhulo Dutt who inspired me start RKD Pet Shop to serve them by making pet products cheaper to carers of Indian dogs.
