Today On February 10 Jammu & Kashmir observed National Deworming Day for Cattle, Sheep, and Goats, an initiative aimed at safeguarding livestock health and boosting the region's agricultural economy. This crucial event, organized by the Animal Husbandry Department in collaboration with veterinary experts and local farmers, focused on administering deworming medicines to livestock across rural and pastoral areas. Given the significance of animal husbandry in Jammu and Kashmir, where thousands of families rely on dairy farming and sheep rearing for their livelihood, the campaign played a pivotal role in preventing parasitic infections that can severely impact growth, milk production, and overall well-being of animals Veterinary officers and field workers conducted awareness drives, educating farmers about the importance of regular deworming, proper nutrition, and hygienic practices to ensure healthier livestock. Camps were set up in various districts, where free deworming drugs were distributed, and farmers were guided on follow-up care. Experts highlighted that internal parasites can lead to malnutrition, anemia, and reduced productivity, making routine deworming essential for economic stability in the sector.
