Ace was presented to us with a history of blunt trauma to the eye, when he was playing in his backyard.
He was squinting due to extreme pain and discomfort.
Ophthalmic examination revealed a mucopurulent ocular discharge, corneal ulcer, hyphema, collapsed anterior chamber and severe uveitis.

We immediately started him on topical and oral medication. Temporary tacking sutures were placed, to prevent the secondary entropion from damaging the cornea further.

His eye was progressively better over a period of 2 weeks.

If your pet shows any signs of squinting, redness, unusual discharge, pawing at the eye or bleeding,
Contact us at your earliest.
*Prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential to give the eye the best chance of healing.

Ira , a 12 year old female ShihTzu was presented to us with a growth on her right upper eyelid. The growth seemed quite big. With friction against the cornea, a corneal ulcer had developed too. After a thorough pre-operative exam, we decided to surgically excise the tumour. Surgery and recovery were both uneventful. Checking the type of tumour post excision is very important. This one turned out to be a cancerous one.

Meibomian masses are the most common eyelid tumord of middle-aged and older dogs. The average age of a dog to get them is around 8 years.

We do not know why dogs get eyelid tumors, nor can we prevent them. You can only check their eyes regularly to look for signs of any problem.
Early diagnosis and treatment is key in such cases.

P.S. Cats can get them too, but not as often as dogs.

Cherry eye

is a common term for prolapse or “popping out” of the third eyelid gland.

It appears as a red swollen mass on the lower eyelid near the nose or muzzle (resembling a cherry). It may be large and cover a significant portion of the cornea, or it may be small and appear only periodically.

The breeds most commonly affected include cocker spaniels, bulldogs, Boston terriers, beagles, Lhasa Apsos, Shih Tzus, and other brachycephalic breeds. Burmese and Persian cats are also reported to have "cherry eye."

Treatment involves surgical replacement of the third eyelid gland. It is important to treat the condition as soon as possible in order to minimize permanent damage to the eye or gland. This is critical because the third eyelid gland produces up to 50% of the watery (aqueous) portion of the tear film. Without adequate tear production, your dog is much more likely to develop "dry eye," which can seriously impair vision.

Surgical removal of the gland is not recommended as it has an important role in maintaining the health of the surface of the eye.

If left untreated: longer the gland is pr*****ed, greater is the risk of associated problems.

Any sign of "cherry eye” should be brought to your veterinarian's attention immediately.

If you have any questions about this disorder, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 9175041239
