Filler in dog food refers to ingredients with low nutritional value that are often added to bulk up the food, reduce production costs, or make the dog feel full. While some fillers may provide minimal nutrients or fiber, they are generally less beneficial than high-quality proteins, fats, and whole food ingredients.

One common filler is 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞. White rice is processed to remove the bran and germ, stripping it of most fiber, vitamins, and minerals. As a result, it is far less nutritious than brown rice or other whole grains and offers almost no real nutritional benefits.

If rice is listed as one of the first ingredients in your dog’s food, it’s best to 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 it with a higher-quality option.

The only time white rice is truly useful is during episodes of diarrhea. In such cases, you can cook plain white rice and feed it to your dog to help soothe their stomach.

For example, I had to do this today because little Moka ate too many “candies” and ended up with a bad case of diarrhea!

We are excited to announce the birth of Basenji puppies from Mika and Bas.

The Basenji is a rare hunting dog from Africa. It is a small dog, weighing 9-12 kilos, and it does not bark (yes, it does not bark at all). The Basenji is very short haired and has no dog smell. This breed is strong, playful, and very intelligent. It is not a toy dog but a special hunting dog that requires special owners.

The Parents:
Mika is a 12-kilo bundle of Basenji muscle and energy. She has been extensively trained, embodying the true spirit of a Basenji with her high intelligence, keen sense of smell, loyalty, patience, and well-developed hunting instincts—though she has never been allowed to hunt. While she can be aggressive toward other dogs, she is incredibly patient and nurturing toward her younger sister, Moka.

Bas is the most gentle and easygoing Basenji male I've ever encountered, which is quite rare among Basenji males. He is an ideal match for Mika; his genes will enhance hers, resulting in a perfect blend of fire and water.

Did you know that Basenjis are unique among dog breeds because they lack the characteristic “dog smell” that many other breeds have. This can be attributed to several factors:

- Low Oil Production in Their Skin.

- Self-Cleaning Behavior. Basenjis are known for their cat-like grooming habits. Their grooming routine ensures that their coat remains relatively clean and odor-free.

- Short, Fine Coat. The lack of an undercoat also helps reduce the likelihood of retaining smells.

- Less Active Sweat Glands
The Basenjis have a reduced tendency to produce noticeable smells from their sweat glands compared to other breeds.

In the video, you can see Mika, the older dog, who is already trained, and Moka, who is just beginning her training. When Moka doesn’t respond correctly to a command, I take her food away and set it aside. Then, I repeat the command until she sits and waits as instructed.

Basenjis exhibit self-grooming behaviors similar to those of cats, resulting in a pleasant aroma and a notable absence of the typical canine odor. This grooming habit is one of the many cat-like characteristics they possess, along with traits common to hunting breeds. They tend to be independent, somewhat reserved, and can pose challenges during training, often developing strong attachments to one or two family members.
