Why does nobody want us? 😔

Every day, these two poor souls watch people walk past their kennel, quietly hoping that today might be the day someone finally chooses them.

Adorra 🧡

This beautiful girl is 4 years old. She is super friendly, playful and has so much love to give.

Despite her sweet and affectionate nature, she is still waiting for a family to see just how special she is.

Adorra adores being part of whatever is going on — she just wants to be included, to belong, to have someone she can spend her life with.

She is smart and eager to please, especially when treats are involved, and training with her is a joy. What she longs for most is not treats or toys — it’s a home, a safe place where she will finally be loved and wanted forever.

Playful and bouncy at heart, Adorra would thrive in a home with older children. She could live with another pending a dog meet.

Right now, she is just waiting… hoping that the right person will see her and give her the second chance she so desperately deserves.

Bro 🧡

This very sweet, handsome boy is 4 years old.

He’s a little shy when he first meets new people but once he gets to know you he is super affectionate and playful.

He loves his exercise and has been a dream to walk while on off-site adventures. He would love a family who would take him on long walks and fun trips to the beach.

Bro gets on well with other dogs and could live in a home with another dog his own size who likes to play rough and tumble. He would be suitable to live in home with older teenagers.

We know there’s someone out there who will love Adorra and Bro just as much as we do.

Could you be the one to give one of these dogs a loving home?

When you adopt, you change a life. And you help us save more.🐾

Dear Owner,

We just wanted to let you know that your rabbit is safe. Thankfully, there were very kind humans living in the house where you left him on the doorstep and brought him to us.

When he arrived, his little paws were covered in urine, but our care team gave him a gentle wash, which he seemed to really enjoy. He is now clean, comfortable, and safe in our care.

We will make sure he finds a loving home where he can live the happy life every pet deserves. We are sorry that you felt you had to make this very difficult decision.

Please know you are not alone, sadly, pets are abandoned every day. We do our very best to help them all, though some days are harder than others.

We have called him Riley.

It’s the weekend, and we’re excited to see how many of our gorgeous dogs will meet their forever families. With so many sweet and loving little faces, they’re bound to melt some hearts.🧡

When you adopt from the DSPCA your new pet will be Vaccinated, Microchipped & registered, up to date with flea and worming treatments and neutered (or, if they’re too young, we’ll provide an appointment for when they’re ready)

Adopting from the DSPCA is such a wonderful thing to do. You’re not just giving a dog a home, you’re giving them a second chance at the happy life they deserve.

In a world where animals can often be treated so badly, choosing adoption is something to be proud of.

When you adopt, you change a life. And you help us save more.🐾

Finally, she has been rescued after 4 days on the run.

Wednesday last, our team got a report of a fawn lurcher running loose around the Knocklyon area.

Late last night staff and volunteers finally located her. After 3 hours of coaxing, they managed to get her safely to the shelter.

She is understandably exhausted and starving. Thank you to everyone that helped. She is safe now with a full belly and is catching up on some much needed sleep.🧡

We are heartbroken to share the sad news that Drew, the foster dog who went missing earlier this week, has passed away after being struck by a car on the M50.

Our deepest thanks go to everyone who helped search for him and shared our posts. We know how much hope and care so many of you held for Drew.

Our thoughts are with his foster family, and the DSPCA staff here, who gave him so much love and comfort in his time with us.

Run free, Drew. You were very loved. 💔🐾

Tragic Case in South Dublin with horse losing its life

This morning, our Inspectors responded to a complaint about a horse tied to a tree on a public green in a South Dublin housing estate. 💔 Sadly, when our team arrived, the horse had already died and nothing could be done to save them.

Incidents like this are becoming far too frequent and reflect a growing problem in Dublin. Over the past 12 months, the horse population has risen sharply in certain areas, fuelled by a lack of enforcement of the Control of Horses Act and Equine ID & Traceability regulations.

As is often the case, this horse was not microchipped, meaning there is no way to identify an owner. Our inspectors will continue to investigate, and we are appealing to the public: 👉 If you have any information, please contact our office in confidence at 01 499 4727 or email [email protected]

The DSPCA has been calling for a strategic, coordinated response to this crisis and we will continue to push until real action is taken.  It’s time for government to establish a multi-agency task force to address equine welfare in Dublin. This cannot be allowed to escalate further. It requires the combined efforts of the Department of Agriculture, local authorities, Gardaí, and NGOs to deliver a real solution.

Every horse deserves care, dignity, and protection 🐴💔

Thank you 🧡

We are always so incredibly grateful for donations and we can’t thank Petworld Tallaght who dropped up some wonderful donations for the shelter animals at the DSPCA.

Front of house staff Peggy the Springer & her human Louise would like to say a huge thank you to Gerard who visited the shelter on Saturday with them 🐾

‼️ DSPCA FOSTER DOG MISSING ‼️

⚠️ Monday 25thAugust - There have still been no more sightings of little Drew. He is extremely nervous so he is more than likely hiding away trying to keep himself as small as he can. He will be getting tired now and is probably resting under bushes or in the hedgerow.

He loves other dogs so if you are out walking your dog in the Talllaght, Knocklyon, Firehouse, Rathfarnham areas, please keep an eye out for him. If your dog is curious about something in the bushes let them go investigate as it may be Drew.

THANK YOU EVERYONE 🐾

⚠️ Sunday Update: Reports of a sighting yesterday near Spar supermarket in Firhouse but no more sightings since. Please keep your eye peeled for him today ⚠️

Drew has gone missing in Oldbawn, Tallaght, D24.

He jumped out of the house window. He’s very nervous of people but loves other dogs so please if you see him try not to scare him and message here 🙏🏼

Danny 🧡

This beautiful boy is just a year old. Despite his age, he hasn’t had the best start in life. He was found as a sick stray with mange and inflamed skin. Despite this, Danny is the most lovable Lurcher with the sweetest personality and a heart of gold.

Danny adores cuddles, being around his favourite people, soaking up the attention and playing games. He is the perfect mix of gentle, affectionate and playful.

He would thrive with someone who spends time at home, happily snoozing while you work and then encourage you to get out for some fresh air so you can stretch your legs too.

Danny will need a little time to settle into family life. What he needs more than anything is a home where he can feel safe and a loving family who will be patient while he settles in.

This sweet boy is simply waiting for someone to give him the love and stability he’s been missing and in return, he’ll give you his whole heart.

He would be best suited in a home with teenagers. He could possibly live with another dog pending a dog meet. No cats.

Could you be the one to give Danny the forever home and future he dreams of?

When you adopt, you change a life. And you help us save more.🐾

History of the DSPCA

The Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was established in 1840 and is the oldest and largest animal charity in the Republic of Ireland.

In its early days the Society was known as the Dublin Auxiliary of the Royal Society for the Protection of Animals and it was founded the year the RSPCA received Royal Patronage, over the years it has had many names including “The Dublin Home for Starving and Forsaken Cats”.

The Society was based at Grand Canal Quay in Dublin City from its formation in 1840 up until 1990, and generations of Dublin people were familiar with it as “The Dogs and Cats Home” and at times as “The Cats & Dogs Home”.

In 1990 the Society moved to the Potterton Restfields at Stocking Lane in Rathfarnham, a suburb of Dublin. The land was bequeathed to the Society in the 1930s as a place to graze retired working horses.
