Ernie was admitted to us recently for investigation under General Anaesthetic as he had a very sore paw. Our Vet discovered some Foxtail grass seeds had made their way under the skin and they needed to be surgically removed.

Foxtail seeds are barbed and designed to burrow. Once they enter a dogs body, they don’t stop! They can migrate deep into eyes, ears, noses and in Ernie’s case paws, causing abscesses, swelling and a lot of pain 😔

Ernie was sent home later that day with a bandage on his sore paw and he was also given some antibiotics and pain relief for a few days 💊

Remember to give your dogs a thorough once over if they’ve been in an area with Foxtails 🌾🌾
